I'm after a good broad all round balancer to put in molasses free chaff for my good doers - I add salt, mag ox & glucosamine separately.

They're both very fussy & all the good ones I find such as progressive earth etc are powder! Neither are fond of any kind of soaked/mash type feed for me to hide it in, so therefore gets wasted.

Does anyone make a good decent one in pellet form? They'll eat anything like that!

Anything especially foot friendly also a bonus!

I feed my good doer Spillers Lite + Lean which is a pelleted balancer. It has a good spec for an easily available commercial balancer and no added iron. It has got a bit of molasses but it's a very small amount. I have tried a few other balancers over the years but we always end up back with Spillers. She has good feet (she's barefoot).

You could try Equimins Advance Complete, I thought Forage Plus made a pelleted balancer too? Simple Systems have pelleted balancers but they contain alfalfa and my mare is intolerant.

I've heard good things about both the Equimins, assuming the horse will eat it, and Spillers Lite and Lean for the more fussy ones. Mine is one Baileys Performance Balancer for various reasons. I think it's a less popular choice but he looks and feels good on it and seems to think it's quite tasty. He is barefoot too.

Ooh great thank you! I'll have a look at them now & what they're like, I'd heard the Equimins smelt fishy!! Haha! Mine are fussy so would see if they would send a sample. Otherwise I'm sure they'd like the Spillers.
They're on Formula 4 feet at the moment but I'm not convinced its doing much or covering all their needs - neither has had a particularly good coat this year.

I highly recommend Gain feeds opticare balancer, I have a 18hh+ ISH and 16 hh tb that look fantastic on it and only have 1 cup twice a day with 1/2 scoop chaff hoof in the summer (lots of grass so they don't need much feed in summer!)

As always it is horses for courses.
I feed Spillers lite and lean plus mag ox, salt and occasionally Protexin.
A friend uses Gain successfully but it made a horse I had previously over excitable.
I would suggest you check the molasses content of Gain in case it is too high for you.

I was happily using Dodson & Horrell Vitamins and Minerals which comes in small pellet form but I haven't been able to get hold of it anywhere for months now :(

Used to use Equimins until the Episode of them being iffy about ingredients. I now have gone back to progressive earth and spillers lite for the one that has a pellet one
