Anyone had a horse with a pelvic fracture? Could the horse weight bare and pivot round on the leg but not be able to move it forward to walk???

Get the horse in cross ties pending arrival of the vet.

I have a mare who has made a very good recovery from a major pelvic displacement 6 months ago. She is wonky, but is now pain free and may be able to come back into light work.

ETA Saw your update re vet. Have they scanned her?

Have you got access to a good chiro vet?

Nothing showed up via scan on my mare either, though due to covid this wasn’t done for a while. My vet says that while she can’t work out exactly what she’s done, whatever it is is ‘big’.

The chiro vet has been invaluable, though, in assisting my mare to recover. Whereabouts are you, someone may know of one in your area?

ETA How recent is this injury?

I had one who had fractured his pelvis in 3 places. He was completely sound just extremely unpredictable under saddle and would bolt blind for seemingly no reason.
ended up taking him to a major vet hospital where he was put through a full lameness work up and loads of other tests to find the cause of the bolting.
Fully sound with every test they did and initially diagnosis was that he was just not right in the head.
I insisted on a bone scan despite being told that insurance wouldnt pay if they didnt find anything.

his pelvis lit up like a christmas tree on the bone scan.

he did eventually come right but the box rest was not fun at all

Has the horse had a fall? I went to a vet talk about backs. He said that some hunters have had falls, have not seemed too bad, a bit stiff, advised to turn out during the summer for a long rest and then come back into work as sound, but seen from the back have a lopsided appearance, but sound and continue to work.

This vet was talking many years ago, before bone scans, horse x rays, etc.

How was your horse within itself? Mine is very bright and don’t seem bothered if she don’t have to walk
