Not a good lead up to this event last weekend he was lame 4 days after being shod
and had to miss our RC horse trials qual. Farrier couldn't find anything wrong but took out a couple of nails and by Monday he was fine
, he had been box rested and doesn't do well on hay, breathing wise.
He was exercised twice a day to try to get his fitness back and we thought we would still go to Aston . Then yesterday my daughter , who suffers with cystitis got a kidney infection and was really poorly but went to the doctors who changed her antibiotics and rested.
Today she was up at 5.30 and bathed him while I got the children ready for school. We set off leaving my husband to pick them up at lunchtime and meet us at the event.
It was the who's who of dressage as the advanced were doing their dressage today . You had to cross the xc to get to the dressage which put him right on his toes but , as usual it was stay calm and stay relaxed. Me ,I was having a panic attack as I couldn't find his nosenet letter for this year. Every other year , every other discipline but not the one I wanted . Finally I walked over to the dressage just before she was going in and explained and they accepted last years.[ I found it later just where it should have been]. So a bit tense in the dressage and a 39 score which is what he deserved.
We then walked the course and just as we got to fence 4 and 5 Jeanette Brakewell had a horrible fall there and I chased off to catch her horse. Luckily both recovered but the two fences were causing loads of problems .We chatted to the fence judge and he said he thought he had an easy fence but it was a major problem . It was two offset feeder things with straw bales in front and was very big and wide.Sould be two strides but it was jumping really long After talking to a lot of people it was decided that she would jump each seperately and do the circle.
Fence number 9 was the dreaded trakaner, we have been to Nigel's three times for lessons but have only ever jumped one fence that was in the course today and the trakener has always been there but we never thought he would ever do it so have never tried!
So after a couple of hours wait they show jumped and he did his usual awful jumps outside the ring , everyone wanted them enormous and we wanted them tiny. He did a lovely round but she did a bit of paniky hooking at an upright and he rolled it off for 4 faults.
Then the dreaded xc , still loads were having trouble at fence 4 so her mind was made up. Off he went and he was fantastic , there were loads of question for him and his first fence straight into water [ the straight route] which he loved . Unfortunately half way round his breathing was a bit laboured , he does make a noise but today it was worse, then it cleared again.
So not a double clear today but just the one show jump down . He had 16 time penalties so we came home with a smile on our faces.
When we unboxed him , and he finished his feed and was eating grass in the yard I notices he had a nose bleed , there was very thick blood on the floor that he had blown out and it was not bleeding any more. He has done this before at the end of last year , only his left nostril and it worries me.
He seemed fine in himself and had a nice roll and went off into the field to graze , so after watching him for awhile we have come home.
Clever , brave boy, trakaners, no problem
Funniest moment ; Zara was bandaging her horse ready to load it [ still in top hat and tails ], her boxer was in season and a labrador was trying to have its wicked way . The owner of the lab was worried about having to the CSA [ child support agency] chasing her for payment.
If anyone wants a good day out tomorrow go to Aston and watch some of the best in the country
