The bloke who did Chloe's surgery does it, hence the thoughts.

s4sugar do your friends find it useful? Do they then go on to have the preventative surgery? xxx
 
Just chatting to my vet after B had digital x-rays taken, he is of the opinion that it will invalidate a lot of BVA hip scores and will eventually supersede the BVA scheme. He'll probably do it eventually, he was one of the first here to do digital x-rays too.
It's just a scheme in America, the same as the BVA scheme, it's solely to show up bad hips and lead straight to surgery.
 
Cant remember the proper name, basically they cauterise the cartilage between the pelvis and the pubis bone, which then make the bone grow out, creating a better hip joint, therefore bypassing hip dysplasia. xxx
 
Well I don't know a lot about it, but thought it was another form of screening. You seem to be talking about it as a form of surgery FH so maybe I have got it wrong. Forgive me for speaking out of turn but you do seem to be thinking very negatively about the future pup, I know you have had a rough time with Chloe but there is no reason to believe your next dog will have bad hips as long as you look carefully at family hip scores etc.
 
Sorry, to clarify, its just like the BVA hip score but its much much more accurate, and if the prognosis is bad, then surgery happens afterward.

Also, I know we're thinking negatively!! And mum and dad are all scored to 9 generations back, with no lower than 5/6 at all.

I'm just interested in this as if we can possibly avoid the heartache, I would absolutely love to. I don't know. !!

It is slightly more complex than the BVA and takes in different angles, to exactly compare them and say one is more accurate than the other is comparing apples with oranges, but it is certainly more **thorough**
It won't take off unless more people do it/there is a demand for it.
