Just a post to say how proud I am of me and the horse. So 5 weeks ago tomorrow I moved her hometown mums, in the two years I have had her I have moved from one field to another and onto two yards, either me or her didn't like the place or it was sold due to two people dying.....
well before I moved her home she had been sat on by myself 3 times and taken on 3 short hacks behind other horses.
since being home she had a stallion rip her fencing down and rape her ( luckily notin foal) with consequently meant she was lame for a week or so due to kicks etc.
Took her out twice in company 3 weeks ago and she was perfect, Breeze is 3 years and 3 months 15.2 ish Appaloosa cross with probably a welsh Arab nativey mix mum. I've owned her for two years and she is my pride and joy. I've spent lots of time handling her and walking her out on roads etc. I gave my other pony back to the lady I got her from to concentrate more on breeze in may and boy has it paid off.
after the two in company rides we went out for a solo hack and she was fine, slightly nappy but no rearing or bucking. Since then we have been trotting little distances o. Each ride. I had been riding her with a head collar and lead roe on top of her bridle as she is poll sensitive and hated her mouth being touched to start with, weare now riding on the bit and being brilliant.
last week we had a canter behind my friends rock steady pony , breeze again was brilliant ( we haven't got a school we can use ATM so all is being done out hacking) well today decided that after 5 days off and the previous 3 rides mum had walked out with me for company and her peace of mind that we would go solo and take a little mooch up a tram she has never been up. I expected her to be nappy and its stoney ground some also expected her to be slow as she is barefoot, but no I see to have a brave stone cruncher of a horse. She trotted up the middle along a grassy patch and then we rounded a corner and there is a grassy open stretch, decided to ask for a canter( thinking that last time she probably only cantered cos tango had cantered off round the corner) but no she was an angel cantered easily long the track and came back to trot beautifully when asked.
The woods we normally come home via we're the venue for a paintball competition so we decided to come home the long way but it did involve a 400 metre stretch along a busy road to get home, the speed limit is 60 but it has a grass verge all the way along it apart from the s bend outside of mums.
we met a Hgv, a builder crane lorry, a BMW crazy man, and then on the s bend I think an old lady wanted to make a horse sized bum dent on her bonnet as she was sat under breezes bum all the way around the corner. Then processed to overtake so my leg was brushed by her wing mirror . I was all hi vibes up as was breeze. Breeze behaved beautifully all through our hour hack
so really this is just a post to say how proud I am of her and also myself because everyone said she would be too mental for me to back and break (apparently i cant ride it more of a case i ride to stay on ratehr thn look pretty) and too attached to ever hack alone, as she does attach herself to other horses quickly.
6 weeks ago she wouldn't stay in a stable .... Now she's in by night and is grazed alone as her mate is a Shetland so obviously doesn't share the same grass requirements.
Love my horse to pieces right now.
dorritos and hot salsa if you've got this far
