Two things have really annoyed me this weekend. First thing, a girl on my Facebook was advertising a 6 week old staffy pup for 50 quid because she got her and didn't realise how much looking after she would take as she works full time. She put some pics on and the poor thing was tiny, didn't even look 6 weeks if I'm honest. I would have drove and got her if she was a dog but my dominant bitch won't accept another bitch in the house. I so wish she would but it wouldn't have been fair on the pup! I commented some links to local rescues but I doubt she'll take her to them. They're all full anyway after Christmas. :(

Another thing, in my local paper there was a story about the most beautiful Cairn terrier pup that had been bought on Christmas eve... And handed in to a rescue Boxing Day. What is WRONG with people? I'm sure after the piece they ran on him they'll be inundated with calls as he really was gorgeous so I hope he found a lovely home too.

People just infuriate me with their stupidity.

Just to balance the books! On New Years Day we pound pulled. Something I have never done before.
Dots was abandoned the week before Christmas. She is very old at least 10-12, terrier type. She is blind from nasty eye injuries left untreated. Deaf, has cancer and is arthritic. She also has kennel cough. I seen her on the pound fb page and couldn't let her die there. She is now on antibiotics, eye drops and pain relief and my vet said her cancer is slow growing so she has a bit of time left in her :-)
She's a timid lady but such a sweetie. My rottie pup adores her
Today she fecked off out the front door, it's lovely to see her not in pain, not so lovely to be chasing after her!!!
Dots will now live out her days with us and my menagerie
Hopefully you will see it's not all bad NellRosk x

Awww missmatch that is such a lovely story!! Gave me goosebumps, what a lucky girl Dots is and I hope you enjoy your time together :) x

i promise you NellRosk that as many as there are of idiotic morons there are always wonders like Missmatch.
in between my mad stories on here i really am a builder and i watched a tiny scent hound staring at me from her pen for 6 months while i was renovating a barn next to her, the owner fed her once a day and that was that, cage full of pooh and a bare concrete slab, when it was time for me to move on i couldn't bear to leave her, i used to sneak in and talk to her and play with her crazy, long ears. i went to see her owner and asked if i could buy her, by chance he had to stop hunting due to a heart condition and gave her to me ( i bought him a splendid bottle of wine), she is my dearest friend now, i do hunt her but she lives in the house , has her own duvet and the stupidest , longest ears you have ever seen!!

There are lots of horrible people out there but there are also angels like Missmatch, rescues are in-undated at the mo so if someone could offer to foster that will allow another dog to come into rescue and one less casualty, for those saying I would but my dogs wont accept another dog then do some serious training. Ive had dogs all my life most of them rescue and they have come to me dog aggressive but Ive found the right trainers and these dogs have been turned around. Im nothing special so if I can do it so can you, you just need the will and the training, give it a go, its very rewarding.

Be glad both are being sold/put into care.

If people end up with the wrong dog at least if they put them up for sale or put them into rehoming centres the dogs have a good chance. Sometimes things don't work out and Christmas is one of those daft times when people get silly ideas like buying pets for a partner/family member only to find that really a pet is NOT the right gift. (one of those golden rules of life - never buy anyone else a pet!)

The worst are those who simply dump the animals or dispose of them.

I do wonder though at only a few days purchase why the animals were simply not returned to their point of source. I can't imagine many breeders would reject an animal brought back after only such a short period of time (and surely like nearly any purchase there is a degree of consumer rights to return? )

Aww another lovely story shady, so glad there are people like you!! She certainly landed on her feet with you :)

I'm not sure if you read my other thread about dog pounds/ rescues but I am looking to get another dog this summer :) And it probably is a matter of training but I would never get a bitch, it wouldn't be fair on the pup or my current girl. We have a delightful little rescue that we got earlier this year and she loves him. Also I would absolutely LOVE to foster but I work full time unfortunately :(

I know I'm sure the breeders would take them back? Very strange. I hope the little Stafford bitch gets a nice home I keep thinking about her.

Iam afraid that lots of the breeders simply dont care, and will not take them back. So many on here deride pedigree breeders ,and registered, as bad breeders, but to be honest the KC breeders I know, with KC registered puppies will take their puppies back without query, and most are very very careful about who they sell to in the first place. Its people who breed non papered pups from non papered parents, or non registered pups who really dont give a stuff. They are breeding for money, so they only want the money and stuff the puppies. Sensible purchasers should ask for the returns policy when they buy they puppy. If the breeder wont take back then walk away as they are a puppy farmer. When I brought my bedlington his breeder put me through an interview. She spoke to my vet and assessed my suitability. She made me promise I would return him to her should i have any reason not to keep him. In my will my dog will go back to his breeder should I die. And I know she would keep him to the end of his days. She didnt ask for that, but when I asked her permission to do that she was over the moon that I would do that for a puppy she had bred.

Couldn't agree more. It will no doubt make me sound like a pedigree dog snob, but I would say that 90% of the pictures I see of GSDs in rescue are poor specimens, who I very much doubt were bred by decent breeders. That coupled with the fact that most decent GSD breeders identify their pups with chip and often tattoo means that if they should end up in rescue they can usually be traced back to the breeder who will take them back or help rehome them.

According to the article though it was a purebred cairn pup and cost them £700, surely the breeder would take it back then?! Sad state of affairs, coupled with that programme I've just watched on bbc 2 I just want to take in all the puppies of the world!

ah but was it a registered pedigree? So many are claimed to be purebred.......... without papers. A decent breeder will always always always register their puppies. And some claim that they wont register them cos they dont agree with the KC. Rubbish........ its because the KC will only allow 4 litters to be registered to one bitch to prevent overbreeding. So unscrupulous breeders simply carry on breeding but dont bother to register. And still charge a fortune for them

KC will not accept registrations if:

1) The dam has already whelped 4 litters (as of the 1st January 2012 the limit changed from 6 litters to 4 litters). As of this date the Kennel Club will no longer register any further litters from any bitch which our records show has already whelped 4 litters. Therefore for any litter born on or after the 1st January 2012, the system will automatically check to see how many previous litters the Kennel Club has an account of. Where the number previously recorded is 4 or more, the application will be rejected, or
2) The dam has already reached the age of 8 years at the date of whelping, (relief from this restriction may be considered normally provided an application is made prior to the mating, the proposed dam has previously whelped at least one other registered litter, and the application is supported by veterinary evidence as to the suitability of the bitch involved in the proposed whelping), or
3) The dam was under one year old at the time of mating, or
4) The offspring are the result of any mating between father and daughter, mother and son or brother and sister, save in exceptional circumstances or for scientifically proven welfare reasons, or
5) (From 1st January 2012) The dam has already had two litters delivered by caesarean section, save for scientifically proven welfare reasons and this only normally provided the application is made prior to the mating, or

So if it was a 'pedigree without papers' ask why and challenge

This might have only made Scotland news but in Ayr a beautiful dog was left at the train station tied to a suitcase with all its belongings in it.....its a lovely dog and its a good job its not on my doorstep ..how can people be so unfeeling.

No that made national news, poor dog. From reading various comments on fb it would seem I am not the only one who suspects the owners who "sold him on gumtree" probably did nothing of the sort and dumped him themselves. :(
