I sold a few rugs and headcollars a few weeks ago on Ebay. Not to make money, just to make room. One of the rugs was a brand new still in it's bag FAL Warrior rug. The lady which bought it had a problem paying me which was fine and I said I was happy to wait. I think the payment came through ten days later and she ended up paying £48 for the rug including postage. Bargain! The rug had never seen a horse and the only time I got it out of the bag was to post it. Anyway I got a e-mail from her today and she claims that the rug has grime inside it and is also ripped. I'm sorry but what bull she is talking!! I can only think that she is wanting to get money back or something. I'm getting close to closing my Ebay account as people have just become impossible. I sold a saddle last year on there. It was a Barnsby, was used but I described that it had a few nicks here and there. The lovely people who bought it must have bent it when they recieved it and I then had the saddle returned with a broken tree!!!

I understand if things are crap and I have lied about them but when people make up story's A: because they don't like it when they get it or B: realise that they would rather have their money back it just p***es me right off!!

I have added a couple of photo's of the filthy grimey rug to show you what I'm talking about!

I've had this a few times, I sold someone an excellent condition Bartl Sheepskin Numnah for £10 (bear in mind they're about £60 new!), they didn't contact me but left me negative feedback saying 'item was damaged and it wasn't mentioned in the listing, disappointed as it wasn't cheap!', err it wasn't damaged, not really difficult for me to spot damage on a numnah, and it was cheap!

I'm sure people just try it on, I never want to leave anyone negative feedback, if there's an issue I will try my best to sort it out with them. I'd just ignore her to be honest and if/when she leaves you negative feedback you can reply to it now and just confirm that you have photos of the rug as you sent it. It doesn't bother me if people have a few negatives anyway, as long as they are generally positive.

I think this is what annoys me the most. People get things for a bargain and yet still want to moan about them. I also never wan't to leave anyone negative feedback but who know's maybe some people just enjoy it!

i would be bad for asking her to produce photos of said dirt and grime, that way if it goes to ebay you've proof that the rug was clean when posted, your pics , and that she had since used the item, her pics. failing that id ask her to post it back at her cost and if it doesnt arrive in the condition you sent it in she wont be entitled to a refund at least thats whats happened IME.
As for you saddle i would have taken that up with the courier as if the recipient said saddle was burst on arrival then its neither persons fault but the courier.

I've taken to videoing any expensive items being packed, just in case, not that I've ever had any funny buyers (yet!)

you can still see the creases in it from being in the bag, it looks brand new to me. what a bargain. is it as 6'6, get it back and i'll buy it :D if you asked her for pics of the grime, it would be easy for her to get it a bit mucky, just tell her to s0d orf!

I agree with the suggestion that she posts it back to you for a refund. Dont pay return postage though. Why should you! Only problem is, she's bound to leave unfair feedback and as a seller, you wont be able to do the same. EBay is SOOO one sided.

OMG I also sold a saddle on ebay last year that went badly wrong. Before I sold it on ebay I'd shown my own saddler it, and asked her if she wanted to buy it off me. She wasn't keen and didn't offer me much, but she checked it and assured me it was fine and was a nice saddle.

Anyway, I sold it on ebay, it went off in perfect condition, I'd spent an absolute age carefully wrapping it up in bubble wrap, and padding out the box, then sealing the box so that it was safe in transit.

A few days later, the person who bought it asked to return it, and I said sorry no. Then a few days after that she withdraws her paypal payment from my account and declares it's got a broken tree! She deliberately broke the tree to get her money refunded. What an absolute bitch. My own saddler confirmed the saddle wasn't in that condition when she saw it a couple of months previously, but didn't want to get involved. I had no way of proving the buyer deliberately broke it, so in the end I lost the money and the saddle. :(

Always always always take some photographs from all angles of anything you sell on Ebay. Its full of people who are just looking for a way of getting some free cash and this is their preferred method.

This ^^ or take photos from every possible side of the item and photos of it in the packaging, make sure you put a copy of that day's newspaper in the shots so they can't argue about it

I think it's a real shame ebay has come to this! I can remember the good old days when sellers were allowed to leave negative feedback for dodgy buyers pulling these kinds of stunts, why that changed I'll never know. As a buyer I had a bad one recently, bought some equisafety stuff from a seller who advertised the waistcoat as postage free and I also purchased 2 sets of leg bandages which said their postage could be combined. I did buy it now and asked seller for combined postage cost, he wouldn't do it so I figured having pressed BIN I'd have dodgy feedback if I cancelled the sale, so I paid the postage (£6) and when I got all 3 items in the same bag it'd cost him £1.48 2nd class! Left neg feedback stating postage was a rip off and Ebay removed it!!!

If that bloke had done the same thing to 10 people he would have made nearly £450, but my feedback to warn others was removed! Nice! I'm afraid I hardly buy anything on there now and I won't sell there either, mainly because of things like OP has had happen.

In hindsight, would've been best to take photos of inside the rug too. However, why would any seller think to do that on a new rug?!

I would tell her to post it back so you can assess the damage and get her to clarify if the packaging was ripped as it was pristine when posted. Also maybe get ebay customer disputes involved? If she's telling porkies it might put her off.

I sold a CD to a man once and he emailed to say that it was scratched and jumping. I said that all CDs were checked prior to purchase but if he wanted to post it back i would check and if damaged would refund him. Played it on my bedroom CD player, kitchen and in my car. Funnily enough CD worked fine! He was still determined to get his refund though. On the plus side he didn't leave ANY feedback so could've been worse.

All I can say is if you're selling, make sure you are uber descriptive and highlight any little problem at all. If you're buying, don't buy from someone unless they give a good description!

The advantages of ebay over preloved is generally on ebay you are commited to buy. Had a nightmare trying to sell a hacking jacket on preloved where on 3 occassions, someone was going to turn up to buy and they never did. I waited in on each occassion and also told people who were interested that the jacket was being sold. Will never sell on there again.

I t has happened a few times to me too :/

I sold a pair of white brushing boots to someone and I clearly stated that they had been used and had some mud splatters (I took numerous pictures of them) The person did not pay for ages and I eventually had to open an unpaid iterm dispute. They finally paid and I sent the items ( she also bought a show jacket). A couple of days later I noticed she had left negative feedback saying that the boots where torn and falling apart and the show jacket was not in excellent condition, I replied underneath the feedback saying there was pictures of the mud splatters on the boots and they where not torn when I sent them and for the showjacket I said that I never claimed it was excellent condition (I said in the description good condition for its age- Its 30 years old and I had pictures of the worn parts) I'm not quite sure what she was expecting really as I had described all the flaws and taken many pictures of them.

I also sold a rug that was stated on the manufacturers label as 5'9'' and it fitted our 5'9'' pony and the person who bought it saying it did not her her pony and it was definatley a 5'3''. We told her that it was definatley a 5'9'' and we told her to look at the manufacturers label to see the size. A couple of dayts later she changed the feedback to neutral and left a full stop (I guess she realised she was in the wrong)

Ever since these people have left negative feedback i have not been able to sell anything :(

I've been lucky on the whole but I had a bad experience selling a saddle recently. I'd bought it from ebay, but it didn't fit my pone so sold it on again.

Buyer sent a blut email saying it wasn't as described and tried to say it was damaged... long story but eventually she backed down. Never apologised for accusing me of selling something not as described.

Luckily the good outweigh the bad but I guess you're always going to get some people who want to try it on.

Ive just brought some stable bandages which are ment to be brand new, the are selling job lots of them, and they had white hair in them!, They were cheap so I didn't say anything, but Ive had quite a lot of rubbish via Ebay and ive had problems with people buying from me too.

I have had both good and bad experiences buying and selling on Ebay - but mostly good, I must say.

I once sold some lovely leather boots - very good condition, but nicely 'worn in'! I had loads of pics, listed the size and that they were 'wide' (that's what it said inside the boots, and I was 'wide' at the time :) )as well as the actual calf measurement.

Girl who bought them left feedback that the boots weren't actually very 'wide' (wonder what sort of size she was ;) )

I sold a really old wintec saddle for £5 buyer left neg feedback as the saddle had hairs on it :D i had to giggle :D

Hahaha classic,
I sell a fair bit on there and it seems the better the deal, the bigger the muppet that buys. It's since they stopped negative feedback for idiot buyers.
I sold a DVD just before xmas for the grand sum of one pound. The buyer complained about my not having posted it.... She hadn't even paid for the bl@@dy thing!!
Also bent over backwards to assist a french buyer who took two weeks to pay for his saddle, who then wanted his money back as his Used saddle was second hand(!)
''No you can't keep the saddle AND have your money back''

I really wouldn't mind if I had lied but the fact the rug came straight out if the bag and she then has the cheek to try and say that I have lied is what annoys me. In future if I sell anything on eBay again I will be sure to take pictures inside, outside and from every angle possible! As someone else said previously in the pictures I sold the rug with on eBay you can still see the crease lines from where I had just taken it out of the bag.

I once sold a showing jacket very cheap and they left negative feedback saying it was completely the wrong size :O No, it was as described! I messaged her several times, saying I'd take it back at my expense, but no, she completely ignored me. Silly woman.

I had exactly this a couple of months ago. Buyer said I hadn't mentioned the holes in the lining and needed compensation to have them mended.

I asked her to email photos, which she did, but when asking previously for a buy it now price, mentioned that she had the same type of rug which her mare had trashed. I was a little suspicious as I hadn't noticed holes in the lining, but hadn't checked thoroughly as it had been stored for a couple of years after cleaning.

I now feel like a mug as I refunded her £10 so that she wouldn't leave negative feedback. She left positive feedback saying rug was in excellent condition! Think I've been had :(

One of the reasons I stopped selling stuff on ebay was because of the buyers - people are a joke, like someone else mentiones they get a bargain & still moan!
Either tell her to f off or get her to post it back at cost to her, will probably cost her tenner to return it to you!

I sold an extremely valuable saddle on ebay last, year, buyer snapped it up on the "Buy it Now" price. There were some minor problems with delivery, but fortunately the delivery service took a photo of the saddle as she asked for it to be left in a shed (they were very nervous about this so photo to prove it was left). Then she claimed it was damaged! Photo clearly showed all packaging intact, so when she started ranting at me, I said, "send it back, then" which shut her up, as it was a good deal and she knew it. She was just trying to get an even better bargain than she already had. The hazards of ebay, I'm afraid, but overall I have sold lots of stuff successfully through it.

Totally agree - it's not as good as it used to be.

My worry is with Paypal - negative feedbacks' not so bad if you've got a ton of positives preceding it. But for eBay to decide in favour of the buyer [when they haven't seen the so-called damaged or misdescribed item] and refund the money out of YOUR ACCOUNT is what I find exceedingly worrying.

I used to sell a lot on eBay - and touch wood, all sales have so far been fine.

But several of my friends have had no say in their 'refunds'.... i.e not got their goods back and money been taken by eBay/Paypal. That's theft/fraud in my eyes.

I'm afraid I'm another one to of been 'had' by eBay. Sold my 2 month old innova for 700. Women left possitive feedback. I emailed saying I had found the guarentee would she like, she said yes. 3 weeks later she emailed me saying I had sent her the wrong size, I told her to sod off and after a lot of emails ebay refunded her and then threatened me with the dept collectors if I didn't pay :(

I've pretty much given up on selling on ebay. Last time I advertised something I went to put my usual bit on the end "If you don't want it, don't bid on it, if you do, pay for it. Thank you."

Ebay wouldn't allow it because it says 'don't bid'. It getting really anti-seller these days.
