People on Ebay are a joke! RANT!!!

I'm afraid I'm another one to of been 'had' by eBay. Sold my 2 month old innova for 700. Women left possitive feedback. I emailed saying I had found the guarentee would she like, she said yes. 3 weeks later she emailed me saying I had sent her the wrong size, I told her to sod off and after a lot of emails ebay refunded her and then threatened me with the dept collectors if I didn't pay :(

Really? It gets worse! Thought the cooling off period for distance selling stuff was 14 days?

And surely if she'd left positive feedback she shouldn't have any grounds to return it weeks later!

I've taken to buying stuff from Amazon, much easier.

I sold a brand new haybar on ebay some time ago. The woman took a month to pay me, I tried to make a complaint and couldn't. I then had a complaint filed against me as I hadn't sent it quickly enough!! Apparently she should have had it the same day she paid for it!

I haven't really had any issues with eBay, but preloved sometimes gets my goat, I put some things on there at prices much lower than the items would be worth, up to half what I would have put them on eBay, and every time I get people trying to barter it down, or get free postage when I have stated how much it is. I have sucessfully sold a saddle on there though and Te buyer was lovely and came to collect in person, then sent me a lovely email about how her young daughter was so happy with it and had been 'studying' it in her room at night - bless!

I list no more than 4 items at a time on ebay and nothing worth more than 15.90 so if I get a loss through bad buyers, like a paypal chargeback, it's not such a loss as selling a more expensive item.
I have just been had by a seller though, I bought a tarpaulin to go over our shed roof as it's sprung a leak until the weather improves and I can re felt it. They sent me the wrong size, I have emailed them twice but looking through their feedback they never respond or refund according to others.I had seen their bad feedback but took a chance, my mistake, I now have an open ebay dispute going on.
I pride myself in honesty and good customer service to anyone I sell my products to, you only have to read my feedback on ebay to see that but when you get low life scumbags treating you like this it's makes me so angry.LUCKILY I only have good feedback but I am sure I will meet the buyer from hell sooner or later!
I tend to use amazon to buy things now and ebid.co.uk to sell

I put 2 saddles out for the bin men, 1 had a broken tree and the other was about 30 years old, sound but very old and crappy, saw them both on ebay within 10 days, those scavenging bl**dy bin men!

When I dump old knackered saddles from my workshop and I have had quite a few, I cut off the flaps and gith straps to stop this happening, use a stanley knife and mind your fingers!
Put the knife right across the seat too, that stops the thieves selling on ebay!

I've pretty much given up on selling on ebay. Last time I advertised something I went to put my usual bit on the end "If you don't want it, don't bid on it, if you do, pay for it. Thank you."

Ebay wouldn't allow it because it says 'don't bid'. It getting really anti-seller these days.

Yes! I had this yesterday. I listed some young fish for sale using the Buy It Now option - stating in my listing page that collection was to be within 7 days of the purchase. Chap buys them within 3 hours of me listing them on a 10 day listing and pays the £10 by PayPal, then emails to say he'd bought them as a bit of an impulse buy and didn't have a tank to put them in yet. He doubted he'd be able to set everything up within my 7 day window so would I mind if he came a day or two later. I replied that that would be fine, as long as the fish were collected within 8 or 9 days. I hear nothing by day 7 so email to ask what's happening. He emails back that he doesn't want to make a special trip over just to collect the fish and would I mind waiting until he's got another reason to be over my way (he lives 6 miles down the road FFS). By this point it's day 12 since he purchased the fish and paid but I need them gone. I contact eBay to ask if it is possible to refund the buyer and cancel the transaction WITHOUT risking unfair negative feedback. EBay say, no. I say, well he'd broken my clearly stated term as I did ask for the fish to be collected within 7 days. EBay say, that's irrelevant. I ended up refunding the £10 and emailed the seller to say that I was applying to eBay to have the transaction cancelled. Buyer replied, okay. (So I doubt he wanted the fish all that much )

Sooo.... (getting to the point now LOL) I relisted the fish yesterday but next to the bit where I ask for them to be collected within 7 days, I put 'Please do not buy if you are not going to be able to collect the fish with 7 days, thank you.' EBay stopped my listing because that statement puts buyers off bidding apparently. WTF???????:mad::mad::mad: So how on earth am I supposed to stop numpties buying again? At this rate I am going to end up with a string of unfair negative feedback comments. And God knows why eBay decided it was a good idea for Sellers to be stopped from leaving honest feedback about their buyers. It's bl**dy ridiculous. RANT RANT

On the opposite end of the scale. I 'won' some long leather boots last week second hand for 40.00 pounds. They arrived yesterday and they are synthetic! Did the seller not think I would notice. They are Goimg back today!

lol, do they really think people are that stupid!
What an insult, no wonder you are sending them back but you have to fund the postage which you can't reclaim, hardly fair is it.

Another seller here who had a numpty buyer.
Sold something on eBay a while ago, nothing horsey but a very robust sort of item, made of metal.
Buyer bought and paid, and asked if they could use their own courier as they didn't want to pay my (reasonable) postage charge. I said fine, thinking that nothing could go wrong here, surely. Their courier collected and took several days to deliver, and obviously were quite rough with the item as apparently it arrived damaged - was in perfect condition when I sent it and well packaged!
Buyer even said after it happened that he had used the courier company before when he sold an item (an ornament) and it arrived at the buyers house broken. Why did he use them again then?? Their charges were seriously cheap, so that was obviously the appeal there.
He opened a case against me and (thankfully) I didn't have to refund him, although eBay themselves did. IMO he shouldn't have had a refund from them but from the courier company as they should be insured.
Buyer left me a negative feedback though, even though the outcome of the dispute was that I was not at fault! I responded and wrote that on it though, and thankfully I've not had a problem selling since (touch wood!)
I've learnt my lesson now though, I only ever use my chosen delivery method and photograph items as I package them etc.

The other thing you can't put on your description is 'will accept cash on collection'.... that's against eBays' rules as well it seems.

Though I got round it by saying 'will accept c a s h on collection!

My god though - talk about rake in the money with no regard to the seller and the fact that they are the actual eBay customer, not the buyer.

Cremedemonthe - www.ebid.co.uk, not heard of them, how do they work??? ;)

I like you sold loads to make room with some great branded items going very cheap with some jokers trying to complain! I told them to return and I would refund they then soon piped down as realised they had a bargain! Total know how you feel - frustrating!

I buy a lot from eBay and so far haven't had any major problems, so I think I must be lucky! Have been put off selling on there though as people seem to take the P a bit so I'm just selling my stuff through local 'Sell and Seek' groups now as its easier and less stressful!

* UPDATE* Well I have just checked my Ebay account expecting some negative feed back from the lady who bought my rug. When she emailed me the other day complaining about it she basically said that she would be leaving bad feedback as the rug was grubby and ripped, which was bull. Anyway she left good feedback. What the hell was going on? I just think that she was trying to get some extra money off but there was no way I was going to do that seeing as the rug was brand new and I knew she was talking tripe! Just goes to show what people will try. She bought the rug for £41 and postage was £8 so all in all she got a brand new Fal rug for under £50!!! Gotta love the cheek of some people I guess!

I make those lifelike dolls. A woman bought one of my dolls for her niece (kept changing her story) and OMG you should of seen the mess of said reborn ,leg was almost off (looked like 2 kids had been playing tug of war) A right old mess when she sent it back. She tried to say I had sent it with a ripped body, leg hanging off) As if!!!!!!! Anyway I complained to Paypal (theyd refunded her) and told them I was disgusted, said I was being ripped off etc,Paypal appealed on my behalf and I got my money and a injured reborn doll.I was tamping. Grrrrrrr

Doll in my daughters room now!!

I paid for the top level of membership and then it's free listing for as long as you like, you have to pay a bit more if you want add ons etc but the basic sales it is free.
Have a look, they are never going to be as big as ebay but they are fairer and they have PPPay.com which is an alternative to paypal but although I have a PPPay.com account for the life of me I don't understand it!!
This is pasted from their home page, this is the membership I opted for:

I have been on both sides unfortunatley. I bought a leather dressage saddle which was a very badly worn synthetic when I received it. I complained and the seller refunded half the money, it would have cost me that to send it back .
My son sold his Ipod touch and the buyer swears blind he never received it and wanted a replacement, I explained that it had been sent via post office and was sold to pay for music exams not as a business but paypal gave him his money back. He was clearly trying to get a bogof. He didnt ask for or pay for recorded delivery which was my mistake. I wonder if some buyers trawl the ads looking for idiots like me. I dont bother with selling anymore I use the local auction

Always always always take some photographs from all angles of anything you sell on Ebay. Its full of people who are just looking for a way of getting some free cash and this is their preferred method.

Not worth the time / effort. I sold a jacket on eBay and had the buyer contact me to say rip in it (was in perfect condition when I sent it to her, she had it a week before contacting me). She opened dispute and I provided evidence in the form of photos just prior to me sending jacket to her. eBay told me that they don't deem photos as proof of condition of goods as they can be photoshoped.

I have stopped selling on eBay due to scammers and unscrupulous buyers. Have been screwed over too many times by both buyers and eBay.

As a seller I've been ''had'' twice.
First item arrived 'broken', he blamed me. I sent him proof of item condition in photos during packing it up. 3 weeks later, he apologised, realised that item was 'probably dropped in transit'. Thanks to ebay I HAD to refund him half the value of the item. (item was sold at £200).
I complained to the courier, and got an apology 8 stressful weeks later and £25 'good will gesture'. Fine, but I still lost out ££.
Second item was a computer part. Chap bought it, and told me he couldn't pay then, but would by the following friday. No problems. 3 weeks later, and a few 'trying to contact you' messages, still nothing. I got Ebay to give me his phone number, that is not in service. I can't leave any feedback to warn of 'non payment', and yet this person has since bought 2 other items and got positive feedback from those sellers for ''fast payment'' !! Its been 3 months now. And to top that off, my OH got the computer part and gave it to his father... so lost out on that too!!! lol

I'm not too worried if a seller has negative feedback. I look at the % negative out of total sales. I'll then normally read the negative comments before I commit to buy from them. You can normally tell from the negative comment if it's been left because the buyer is an idiot! It's where the seller comments and is quite 'aggressive' in their response, or if it's loads of comments about failure to receive item - those sellers I avoid!

Don't bother with ebay too much now. If I do use it, it's when they have the free listing days. Bearing in mind they take a cut of the sale price, i'm not paying extra to list my item! The final fee they take makes me want to not bother, you're damned if you sell for cheap or if it's really expensive!

I wonder if ahe bought more than 1 rug and mailed the wrong seller?

I was hoping to start selling a few bits and pieces on ebay which have been lying round the stables (usually only a buyer on ebay). This thread has really opened my eyes  I will have to be careful!
