The base of the bed is shavings since yard got a different type of them in his bed have got a squeseish yuk so I took some out and put a bale of Aubiose down on to the base of it without wetting it ooops then coverd it over with old bedding. Now Ive got more to put on the top of bed just wondering if it should be wettn down? I dont want to dig down to the base again! So should I wet the next bale down? Im just worried that wetting it could make the base even more wet? Is wetting it makes its more abosrbe? This is when I wishd that I could use straw!!

Hi I use aubiose deep littered in two stables and have never wet it! I find it makes a great base, I take wet out twice a week and add a new bale on a wednesday and a half on a Saturday. Horses are in quite a lot at moment and it seems to work well. x

Ok thanks then I will put it in dry and see what happerns!!

I deep littered on Aubiose all of last winter. Asin I didn't really take the wet out for 5 months. I threw the top layer of dry aubiose up, and treated the base as a rubber mat. Whenever a bit of the bed squelched I took that bit out and replaced it with dry aubiose. I found I only had to do this every few weeks. If it is done properly its a huge time saver.

Its working out really well now it's been over a week since the very first bale went down and havnt seen the base of the bed thank god I was cringeing whist mucking out no more of that from now on!! The base of it have been down for nearling 3 years I think. I have taken some out not again!!

I actually use aubiose and shavings.

A bag of each once a week. And I never wet the aubiose. Works really well for my rather messy horse.

I only wet a bed that is freshly down from scratch. I dig out her favourite wet bit mid week, then get rid of all the wet on Sundays (1 barrow maximum) and top up with half a bale. Sometimes I have to add another half bale in the week, but certainly no more than that. You just mix the fresh in and it picks up the damp in the existing bed and expands nicely. Great stuff and if you gave me free shavings I'd still pay to use Aubiose/Hemcore.
