People who do not realise how lucky they are....RANT alert!

No offense......but if you don't know the horse(s) in question....then there may be perfectly good reasons for the owners doing what they are doing....

....even if one of my horses was incredibly underweight- right now I wouldn't be putting a turnout rug on it, even a LW one.....too sweaty in the recent heat.....

I agree with this - I would prefer to to an underweight horse than an overweight one and it was not cold yesterday - wet yes, but certainly not cold.

OP, If rugging is used to replace adequate feed I am horrified! Elderly TB, no grass and small haylage net does not imho constitute adequate feed and nutrition.
I guess it is cheaper to rug however.

OP I understand what you are saying!

I love my horse, I feel blessed everyday I get to spend tine with these beautiful creatures and I look after him to the best of my ability.

It must be so frustrating to feel like this but for whatever reason not be able to have a horse and watch others who are privileged to have a horse abuse that privilege.

Part of owning a horse to me is riding it every day, competing and yes my horse wore a l/w when it rained yesterday. I bought him actually because he was soaking wet and cold and I dried him off with a towel while he ate his breakfast!

However you are preaching to the converted on here because while some people on here don't ride or dont rug or whatever we wouldn't spend all our time on here if we didn't care about our horses ;).

I think most people who have been on a livery yard would be lying to say that they haven't, at one time or another, seen someone looking after a horse in a manner other then what they themselves do and have reacted in the same way as the OP!
Some very sensible people have already suggested it, but if you see something that is strange to you ask. We all started somewhere and we are all still learning. I for one would much rather someone asked me why I did something a certain way then stress / moan about it.
