My horse is a git to clip - he genuinely is terrified and has got gradually worse over the 5 years I've had him to the point where he's not safe to do without doping him. Last year I didn't clip as he was on box rest at the beginning of the winter and not if full work until the new year. I've decided I don't want to do him this year either if I can get away with it.
He will be in at night and out in the day. Mostly I will exercise before work and let him cool off while I do the mucking out etc, but there will be some occassions when I have to work him in the evening. He's a tb x native so just grow a bit of a coat, but isn't hugely hairy.
Any tips for getting him cooled off and dried off quickly?
I was thinking of getting him a thermatex rug. Do they work and what is the best one to get?
Any other tips gratefully received.

Thanks

I shouldn't worry my welsh x don't like being clipped either and we exercise him in the winter and he lives out 24/7. If not dripping too much we just sling his rug on whatever. Has never had a problem yet.

Ditto jessie1...I ride my lad throughout winter and he will sweat, he is un-clipped and lives out 24/7 in a medium weight rug...I ust make sure we walk the last 15 mins of the ride for him to cool off and then stick his rug on when we get back. I have had no problems so long as he has cooled enough.
