People who part loan/share.

I have a question for people who part loan/share. Do you prefer the owner of horse to be involved on the days that you have the horse or not. As I posted earlier in week I have my boy starting on a trial for part loan if it does not work out i will have to sell him

which I dont want to. The girl started this week and it all seems to be going very well

and am more positive about it now. I have said that as long as everything is going ok then on the days she pays for I will leave her to it and not interfear. Is this how most sharers prefer it to be.
I have partloaned 2 horses in the past and workede on this basis but in the past I have always had more than the 1 horse and been working on the yard so have always been around should the sharer want me for anything. I now only have the one horse so on sharers days will not go the yard.
What is peoples prefrence on this

I used to loan a pony and i prefered to be left to it. It felt like she trusted me and more like the pony was my own (even though it wasn't) I always knew she was there if i needed any help, which i did a couple of times. I think had she been there on the days i looked after the pony, i would have felt a bit spied on. I was young though 14, but i think i'd feel the same now.

It might be helpful the first couple of times while you're getting to know the horse but generally I'd rather be left to it. I ended my last share because the owner's mum started trying to dictate to me when I should ride on the days I had the horse... then having a go at me when I stuck to the plans I had made!

Mind you they were odd people generally...

I have 2 horses and 1 is on loan so i am there everyday anyway. The women that looks after my mare does her everyday but i sort out mornings and evenings so she just comes down rides and mucks out etc this means she can come down anytime during the day which works well for her. I always make sure the horse is brought in and turned out so that she can have a few hours off the grass.

I have had my mare for 16 years and we know each other inside out, she has had a few medical issues like colic and laminitis so i feel i should keep an eye on her because i know the signs.

I try not to interfere too much but am a control freak by nature (i don’t know how the women puts up with me) the only think i check up on is how often she rides because that is linked to how much turnout she can have.

I think it would be better to be left to it but i think for all the interfering i do she does get a good deal in the fact she has no early mornings and i can do her on the odd day she is busy.

It works for us she has had her for over a year now.

I share mine and leave his sharer to it on her days, unless I have absolutely nothing else to do on a Saturday (would have rathered not have to give up a weekend day, but it was the only way I could find someone) when I will go and potter about the yard, tidying up my stuff, and maybe find a riderless horse to borrow, but she knows I'm doing that as I've got nothing better to do, not because I'm checking up on her. If there is a spare horse, she rides mine and I ride the spare one and she does vice-versa on a sunday if she's at a loose end. Whoever's day it is has priority though.

Best to play it by ear. I am a sharer and the owner of the horse has another so she's often about. We even hack out together. However, I don't really want to be tied in to her and I want to be able to go up when I chose and do what I want. If I need help I'll ask her and then she's hands on but other than that she tries to stay out of it. She can't resist throwing her pony a kiss as walks by but I don't mind that!!!!
