a post above made me remember a few things and im wondering if there's anyone else out there had similar.

Ive had complete strangers call rspca and worse over a lamanetic pony

i had a section a for my daughter who turned out to be lamaetic so as i had knee high grass and he had no respect for electric fencing was put in my back garden (1 1/2 acres) of dead grass and fed on hay and feed substitute (as by vet recommendations) i placed signs up saying DO NOT FEED and found several people cooing over said pony and feeding him grass from the burn side when pulled they said "oh we thought it was to stop kids feeding him" so i changed the sign to FEEDING THIS HORSE WILL CAUSE DEATH DUE TO LAMINITIS and still same people and other fed him. i then had RSPCA up saying he was starved and bone thin lol rspca turned up to 3 hay nets in garden, 5 wheelie bins full off feed and left quite happy.

Once i had fields cut and bailed he was put into a small paddock with a bucket muzzle (broke my nose and several black eyes trying to get the damn thing on) i would come home to find muzzle on the gate, so i camped in my front porch one day to find some woman go into MY field and remove it i ofc confronted her to be told he couldn't eat/drink and breath with the muzzle on and i should be done for animal abuse, i set her off with a warning and advise to look on horsey site at the muzzle. needless to say she didn't take the warning until the police were called one day by my dad after a 30 min screaming match after she removed the muzzle again lol stupid woman!

Anyone had something similar?

oh yes... muzzles removed, elelctric fencing tampered with, ponies fed polos and allsorts...

and apparently I'm cruel for NOT rugging my ponies in winter, and for not feeding them in the spring.

One's had laminitis....

Current YO was going to call RSPCA on me because she claimed the local RS proprieter (who's had more run ins with the rspca than you could shake a stick at) told her i was neglectful in using muzzles.

YESS!! omg (btw thats one stupid woman)
but theres some dog walker who walks her dogs past my field everyday....and every few months she will ring the RSPCA and make up some **** so they can come out and poke my horses :/ theyve got to the point now where theyre getting pretty fed up because they could be out helping animals that really DO need attention but theyre being dragged out to look at perfectly healthy horses....
she actually called the RSCPA the other day on my friends horse (he recently had lice and lost a bit of weight) but the RSPCA saw all the feed and hay and left quite happily :)
oh i also had people climbing into my field to feel my horses because they thought they werent being fed and thought they were too skinny but the rspca said everything was fine and saw the feeding regime and were happy with everything :)
i also have horsey neighbours who b*tch about us....clearly we're the highlight of their lives if all they can talk about is us ;) haha x

aanndd about a year ago we had a little foal but every chance he got he would jump the fence and would get attacked by the other gelding :/ also would try and jump into the main road so we put him in the stable until the weekend (about 4 days, out everyday on lead and mucked out everyday) then he was taken back to his owners.....some man went into his stable and was going to let him out!!!! said it was cruel to be locked up through the day.... he couldve been killed!!!! :(

oh i also had a fly fringe the rope notted ones removed as it was going to cause a injury to my horses eye i was like wt*??!! theer to stop flys going in there eyes!

Yes! my pony has COPD hes mainly allergic to pollens, so is quite poorly in the summer. Last year he got really bad! and was heaving a lot during the day so anyone with a brain could see he wasnt right. He had got really thin as his breathing was using up all his energy! despite being fed 3 times a day! but i had 4 complaints from the rspca. also had people coming INTO my field and letting said pony into the botton field where there was more grass! which makes his breathing worse! and countless abuse over the fence by other "horsey" people saying they will get both my horses taken away etc and that i neglect them! even though my other horse is fine! so why i would neglect the one i dont know! some people just annoy me! It would be nicer if they would just ask me whats wrong with him instead of jumping to the conclusion that i neglect him...

There are some right butters out there. I remember once someone wanted to report us for our old mare we had on loan, who had taken a turn and nothing would put weight on her - vets knew and gave us a course of action.

She was just as skinny as the horses of a local lady who rented out her horses - the only diff was that she was REALLY horsey and we were kids. When really, hers WERE being worked to hard and fed too little.

Shame they cant give some sort of certification thing, or a notice to put up saying they have been to visit due to malicious reports and till not entertain nuisance complaints.

when my boy passed away he passed in field suddenly so i covered him up with 2 rugs as the local bus route was at end of road and it was popular place for dog walkers i had BHS and RSPCA out after reports of a dead horse in the field for a week! he passed 15th November and was picked up 16th night by crematorium man! i was so mad when they came out the 15th had to get vet to speak with them on phone

Makes me glad I have horses at livery on a private farm with no roads going past my field or footpaths!!!

I had an arab that came from a showing stud, I didn't show, I hunted, a lot. The horse was very, very fit, at one Meet the breeder came up to me and said "Oh, so and so thinks your horse is so thin he's borderline starving"

Personally, I didn't believe for one minute that 'So-and-so' even existed but was too staggered at the time to say much.

I don't think I have ever been so furious in my life, my fellow hunters would not have been backwards in coming forwards if they thought the horse was thin.

My lad is a classic 'good doer' the slightest sniff of grass goes straight onto his neck and bum. All last summer we had people tampering with his muzzle, as we have a footpath next to a fence and he's a friendly type who likes to say hello.

This year we have tape up, so the horses are well back from the fence.

I think it's awful people who know nothing about horses or even if they do, will go into your field or yard and tamper with your horses. Maybe you should crticize the care of whatever dog they are walking see how they like the threat of a welfare society being called. I wouldn't be worried about what the Rspca will do they were called to a genuine case I am aware of and did absolutely nothing pony is still there as far as I know.

Out of interest, would peoples insurance cover any injuries caused if the nosy parkers got injured by the horses while trespassing?

I haven't had the raspca called or any real problems other then with my YO.

My ponies suffer with sweetitch, and she has had several goes at me saying that having my fly rugs on my horses will cause them to suffer, etc etc the rspca will get called, oh and she even said they don't have sweetitch... Well trhey don't at the moment prevention is better then cure.

However teddi has now rubbed off half his face itching... The rugs are going back on today, and we are moving yards next weekend!!

ive had RSPCA called for the ponies "not wearing any clothes in the snow" (unrugged natives), so starving they are eating snow (whole bale of hay in feeder).
ive had people feding them burgers from mcdonalds & moving them from back starvation feild into big hay paddock that is chest height in spring grass (great! hot feet)

but the best by far & even had our local RSPCA officer in giggles was the report i had gagged & bound one to move him around the feild (he was being longlined in harness ready to go to shafts)

luckily they are well fed, well known at vets & loved so much its silly.

my horse is two years old, he is kept next to a road where lots of people walk past with dogs and he's been reported to the RSPCA no less than 6 times each with ridiculous reasons.. one of which was he had mud on him! in the middle of winter!! and another was saying he was too skinny! each time the RSPCA inspector has told me there is no problem with him if anything he is slightly overweight, it turned out that this woman who kept reporting me used to rent the field i have and it seemed she was trying to drive me out, plus her horses suffer from laminitis every year. im still there and my horse is still happy so dont let these people win! :)

i have a similar problem, my neighbours used to rent my field and now try every possible trick to get us out again :/
and i had a dog walker accuse my (at the time VERY fat little pony) of being too skinny!!! :o

crikey if someone went in my field to remove a muzzle or move my horses i would prosecute for tresspass, then tell the RSPCA i wanted them prosecuted for cruelty to animals. After all the WHW and RSPCA are all for prosecuting horse owners who let their horses get fat, what happens when it,s nosy interfering people who remove muzzles and move horses where there is a potential laminitis attack.

Saying that I did have a xmas tree thrown over the fence to my horses once, would not of been that bad but it was artificial lol

I would be horrified to find anyone doing ANYTHING wth my horses and in owning them for the past 18 years I've never had any issues. I keep mine privately directly across the road from my house with the nearest neighbour 1/2 a mile away. So I guess we dont get many passers by. I imagine people would think Im cruel as my 2 elderly ponies are also highly lami-prone so they stay in my hardcored yard during the day (with loads of hay) and then go out into a small paddock at night. Even though they always have hay and get hard feed twice daily, I imagine people think Im cruel not giving loads of grass!

OMG some of your tales in this thread are carzy! I feel so sorry for you

Whilst I've never experienced anything like this, I did have a not from a neighbour complaining that I neglect my dog as when I used to work full time I would leave her out the garden on nice days - she had water, toys, and a kennel out there plus the company of my other neighbour who is retired and always playing with her and even used to take her into his house if we had a sudden down pour.

I went around, and totally lost if with her and told her she was the cruel one for letting her dog get overweight! I actually got another dog to keep mine company in the days - which my dog thinks is fab!

dont even get me started on this
. im suppose to be a eval woman who doesnt feed her horses , (like hell has she took a look at my youngster reciently )
who this woman conserntly feeds bags of carrots (,yes bags) two to three times aweek
ive even sayed to contact the rspca if she fills that strongly which she doesnt do
electric fencing around the area she feeds and a letter form a equine lawyer has down the trick . so yes i have people intrefere but not rspca

This reminds me of a similar thread on another forum a while back. Thankfully I've had no problems (we used to let a farmer graze his HUGE bull in the field ;) ) but one person on there said her neighbour had put baby oil on her horses nose because she thought it looked a bit pink!!! By the time the owner got there the whole nose was blistered in the sun and the poor horse had to spend 2 weeks in a stable recovering.

That story made me very wary....

Yes. We have been reported to the RSPCA and Donkey Sanctuary for starving our animals. We get spells of electric fencing being removed, feed thrown into field. Happening in the last two weeks as it happens.
We know who is doing it, as she reports every horse/pony/donkey in the area for something or other frequently.
A do-gooder who knows NOTHING about equines (and has overweight dogs!)

We had the RSPCA called about Ryan, He was in his early 30's tbx and had VERY high withers (as you can imagine for a horse or his age/breed)

They had a big ring feeder of very good hayliege and he got 3 hard feeds a day...

The complainers had said he was underweight - when the RSPCA came they understood the situation when the realised his age!

Yeah he wasnt in any sort of great condition - but the vet said it was the oldest horse he'd ever seen! the vet said it was a testament to the wonderful life he had led!

Him just a few years earlier competing into his late twenties!

It annoyed me at a time where i was watching my best friend succome to old age that people were sticking thier nose in and making the situation more unbarable. Thankfully the rspca could see the compainer didnt have a clue.

im pleased that i keep my childrens pony on a private yard away from public footpaths and roads! people are so judgemental and arent happy unless they are putting their nose into other peoples affairs. i cant work due to my sons complex needs. he shares my daughters pony and also goes to riding therapy once a week during term times. he changes into a different child while he is on our pony/ riding therapy pony. its amazing how ponies can help children who are disablied or who have severe learning difficulties. i will post some pics asap. some people just think they know best but in truth they know nothing

Yes this has happened to me! My mum fell out with any other horsey woman and in the middle of winter this woman rang the RSCPA about our veteran horse saying he was too skinny (despite the fact he was rugged to eyeballs so how would she know)? RSPCA turned up saw plenty of water for all horses, loads of haylage in field, and even reasonable grass for winter, and left, and she also said that the horse was well for a 25yr old. It was completely unneccesary and embarrasing.

Heard today about someone who keeps tearing down electric fencing because the poor horse(laminitic)cant get to the grass. I always thought it was just the odd crackpot,:eek:They are everywhere:eek::eek:
