A bit daft but people that have horses with long, thick forelocks, do you find that they jump better when the hair is tied up away from the eyes?

I suppose it makes sense really, or maybe I'm just imagining it, but I think my cob jumps better (he is always a superstar, but just feel he moves forward more in the last couple of strides) when his hair is tied back out of his face.

Edited to say, I really should update my sig as he is now a full on traditional.

I don't plait my Fell's forelock - although he has only done jumping a handful of times at the moment - but he'll have to compete with it down so he'll have to be able to jump with it down.

Woudl love to see some pictures of of traditional Bodey - used to love your posts about him!

I haven't really had to think about it before as he was always hogged, but now it's grown back lovely and thick, so I think I will do the same from now on! Poor cob, I have been making him jump with net curtains on, lol!

Hairy Bodey boy, a bit of jumping and showing! :D

I actually think the forelock has had a growth spurt as longer then that now and that was only a few weeks back.

Mines a connie x tb with a forelock that comes below her noseband, would be longer still left untouched. Jumped her for 18 yrs without issue, but it is quite fine. If its getting in the way though it might be better plaited.

Mine has a hefty forelock, we don't do anything with it, he goes that fast it's windswept back :p

He still manages 3'3 jumping courses :D

Interesting thread. I don't own a hairy but at a show a few weeks ago witnessed a lovely hairy who's mane was so long that it had managed to get wound round its bit and was in such a muddle that they had to take the bridle off to detangle it!

I jump mine with his loose mostly, he doesn't seem bothered by it. If one more person jokes "can he see through that?!" I may lamp them though - it's neither funny nor original, people... Mind you, he doesn't do so much now he's getting on so the unfunny of Essex are probably safe for now :D
