People with navicular horses - how did you find it?

Aww Skewby I am so pleased to have seen this :D

Good luck with your boy for the future!
Thankies mate :) still on cloud 9 here just hope I'm right! He's just grand though, right back to his old feel, before mum got fat n floppy (diet has begun lol!!). Thanks for your support I do appreciate it xxxx

Imogen that article is interesting but there is not a word in it about the number of navicular diagnosed horses that are coming sound by removing their shoes and ceasing all drug/shoeing/surgical treatments.

I assume/hope that it was written before this information was widely available ...

I do think it was written a while ago - an american paper too so there may be some differences in philosphy??

However, I have not seen current references regarding cessation or treatment/barefoot options for these cases (may be out there ;)), and I have experience in this area either TBH. I'm sure may some other vets may be better placed to comment on this.

ps the navicular horse I had in 1985 had isoxuprine and it did diddly squat to help him
:D

Imogen, Nic Barker is working with Leahurst on Project Dexter, documented on rockleyfarm.co.uk and due to publish soon (on peer review soon or at the moment, I think). I know that Nic would be delighted with a call or email to talk you through what Rockley are doing with barefoot rehabs. For a flavour, check out rockleyfarm.blogspot.com where you can see in the archive horse after horse who arrives lame and toe-first landing in shoes, and goes heel-first and comes sound in around the twelve week timeframe, depending on how bad they were when they arrived. The majority go home sound to continue their lives in full work and all have been dramatically improved, drug free, surgery free and shoe free. Even more startlingly, these are horses for whom multiple other treatments have already failed, as they had with my own rehab.

I know how open minded you are from your postings and I'm sure you would be really interested to chat to Nic if you have time.
