people with primary school age children

the thread about routines has got me thinking, at the moment, i ride every morning 8-8.45, then get my children to nursery for about 9.15/9.30 then get to work for 10am, but it won't be long before they start school & preschool & arriving at 9.30 won't quite cut it, so..... those with primary school age children (& a job) when do you fit in riding, my horse is about 15 mins drive away (at my mums, so she can feed for me when i need her to) and my OH often leaves at 6am, isn't home until 7pm, so him looking after the boys isn't an option?

My horse is on DIY livery, and my little boy is just about to start his second year at primary school. I either ride in the arena after school, whilst he watches a DVD in the car or tack room, or plays in the sand, or in summer some evenings I ride out late. Otherwise my mum has my little boy and I ride after work. Fridays are my favourite - I don't work on Fridays so 9 till 3.15 is sacred horse time!

Wow im amazed you ride, get kids to nursery then work in that time truly!Us horsey mums always find a way perhaps your mum will help ?Hat off to you doing that in them hours before work

I find it very hard which is why I'll be glad when my boy starts secondary school and is old enough to walk to his school by himself (so in about a year or so). It's not so bad in the spring and to about October as I can have a quick ride in the evening. After that, until it starts to get light enough in April, my riding is pretty much nil in the day (except at weeklends) unless my son has something afterschool or I pay for him to go to afterschool club (which ain't cheap) and then I can squeeze a ride in the afternoon. When I have a dressage show coming up or have a side saddle lesson, I often have to pay for him to go to afterschool club.
