People with Rotties, what do you feed them?

Looking for suggestions. Currently on raw, but it's costing a fortune and I need to cut back if I can find something suitable for their sensitive tums.

A friend recommended a Costco brand. The nearest Costco is a good 50 minutes away so I'm looking for alternatives that are reasonably easy to get hold of.
 
We have fed our pair all their lives, on plain terrier meal from the local feed merchant and Butcher's tinned meat, with no digestive problems. We did have to have one pts aged 6 because of a splenetic tumour. However we lost the previous Rott, a rescue, aged 8, to a similar tumour and because of her sensitive digestive system she had been fed on all sorts until we finally settled on a Salmon & Potato kibble but I'm afraid I can't remember who made it. Unfortunately they just are genetically prone to splenetic cancer.
 
My rottie cross is raw fed as he was very itchy when I got him. I don't find it any more expensive than a reasonable quality kibble ( except I did have to buy a freezer for dog food! He has 2 packs of the Albion meat per day @79p a pack plus a tin of sardines @34p plus an occasional bone and veg leftovers and peelings. He also likes to help himself strawberries and blueberries straight off the plant in the summer (swine! I didn't get a single blueberry from 2 bushes this year) and any food that is left unsupervised with in reach... He gets offal etc when it's marked down in Morrisons but never has chicken as he reacts to that.

The kibbles that I tried him with worked out a similar price and £2 a day to feed him seems reasonable to me? Now if I was to use Natural Instinct or Nutriment I'd be bankrupt!
 
I have two rotties and both are raw fed which keeps their various itches and scratches in check. I use bulmers which works out less than £20 a week for both. Where do you buy your raw from? Maybe someone could suggest a different supplier for you? I do have a freezer separate for their feed.

They and the GSD are on Natures Menu Free Flow. We're getting through bags of the stuff. All dogs are good weights with the vets happy that the Grots especially aren't fat bobbers.

We get the food from either P@H or the local independent shop. I used to, many years ago, just get bones, chunks of meat and offal from the local butcher. Worked well. Sadly the butcher changed hands and they no longer sell such bits n bibs.

It sounds like I need to reconsider what meat and from where!
 
Have a look at stockists who sell bulmers it’s usually the cheapest but mine thrive on it.

I have used these and they’re all fab meats. Luckily there’s a pet shop local where I can buy raw now.

i have also used TPMS but their selection is sparse.

Are you on the fb raw groups? They can be a mine of information especially regarding local suppliers.
 
Theres cheaper ways to feed better quality raw! Bulmers is ridiculously cheap and ours look good on it. It starts from 45p for 500gms. The cheapest one they do is called economy mince which is heart and lungs etc minced up. Mine go mad for that one. Fish and game are more expensive but still less than £1 for 500gms. We've got a big full height freezer thats just for the dogs. For the 2 whippets and the cat it was costing less than £30 a month.

I think Durham Animal Feeds deliver to your area. They are who I used to use and are very reasonable.
 
My Rottie is fed Arden Grange mixed with Butcher's tripe or raw tripe/mince. He is nearly 13 and, apart from being arthritic, is well. Doesn't smell (which I think is an indicator as to whether or not a food suits) and does firm stools - important for the shovelling!!
 
I feed Arden Grange, mines a heavy girl so she gets light.
If not the cheapest but not premium, I also use it for my lurcher which are notorious for having a sensitive digestion.
They eat a lot of horse poo and it still keeps them firm
 
basic diet is 2/3rds tin chappie and cup of skinners duck+rice split into 2 meals a day.

other things are sardines,veg and any leftovers so if he gets extra then i reduce the basics a little.
 
Sorry, MrsM, I should also have said that we feed 3 equal meals per day, to avoid digestive problems/bloat 11/2 tins of butchers per dog per day with 1 clean canful of terrier meal per meal. Both weigh(ed) a healthy approx 40 kg

I think we tried Chappie, as have happily fed other dogs on it with no issue, but no joy with these two

Three times is good. We do twice as can't fit a third in as they're out and running over lunchtime, though could maybe do early afternoon. Will give that a thought. Nearly lost a very much loved dog to stomach torsion, then did lose her to bloat, so am wary.

Debating the Bulmers. Might not have a freezer, though they have their own now there are changes afoot. Will contemplate. We went to the nearest stockist today. Lovely place and helpful but I should've checked the pricing before we went as it works out far more there than buying via the Bulmers website. Did have a nice drive out though :)
 
What weight is he and how much do you feed him? Mine's on raw too and despite feeling like a few times I wanted to change it, I just cant face the thought of stinking farts, sloppy poo and a possible change in his utterly perfect personality!

There's two of the bobbos - both around the 40kg mark. They have 700g a day of the Nature's Free Flow, split between morning and late afternoon (each dog).

I know what you mean about the stinky farts, etc. etc. etc. Something they were both very good at on the non-raw feed!
