So my ponies are currently in Ruggles rugs (5'6 qand 5'9) but I am very interested in the Ponyo range for my young mini cob. He is nearly 3 and is called Melon, so obviously he needs their watermelon rugs! However, I just wanted some advice on the Ponyo sizing? He is currently in Ruggles 5'9 on the tightest holes and it fits him really well, but he can also still fit in Ruggles 5'6 if needed. I know he is still growing but probably won't grow much more so am looking to invest in some of these rugs soon. How do they come up size wise compared to the Ruggles rugs?

My Ruggles only lasted a season. I didn't wash it (it wasn't that dirty), just brushed off most of the dirt, first heavy rain on its second season and it failed BIG TIME :( may as well have put an indoor rug on the poor boy. So I'm not a fan of this make.

Strange - I've got a turnout that must be at least a decade old and it's still going strong.
OP I suggest you contact Ruggles re sizing, If you email, they reply very quickly

Have you spoken to Ruggles? Seems very odd, as they're one of the brands I go for if I want a rug i can trust in a deluge.

Thanks, I will do that, as I am very disappointed in it. Having had Horseware rugs last a decade, although I didn't expect a cheaper range to last that long, I expected better than one season.

I've found them really good customer service-wise. I had one where all the stitching failed when my horse rolled - both surcingles, both front buckles all gave way, it was really wierd. He in the field wearing just the hood. They replaced the rug with no quibbles, just had to wait a few months for them to come back in stock in his size.

My Ruggles no-fill was a bit iffy on the water-proofing, but the others have been excellent. His 50g is on its 5th winter and hasn't been reproofed yet, and it's the one he is in most so it's had heavy wear.

eta: these are heavy horse size, so useless as a Ponyo comparison. ;)

I have all of mine in Ruggles and just wanted to say I think they’re far more adjustable than most rugs (if your boy can fit in a 5ft 9 and 5ft 6 of theirs). I do Totally get your need for the

You definitely need to get in touch with Ruggles. Diane and her team are so helpful. I’ve got 4 in Ruggles rugs and have bought them for many years, they’re great rugs.

I have 2 Ruggles turn outs on their second year now and they are amazing rugs. When u called them before ordering to ask about how waterproof they are , the lady said that they are tested to hold off twice as much water as average rugs and if there was ever a problem , just to get in touch. An average rug will hold off something like 500ml of water in an hour - Ruggles ones have been tested to twice that amount. I'm so impressed with them. I find them true to size as well on my not particularly chunky cob as well.
