Peoples experiences moving to a new yard?

Moved to a new yard today. It was a bit of a rush job basically dropped him off put him in the field and went home. My other yards have been well not posh and this one is (well it is compared to what im used to) and im just used to getting on doing my own thing. I havent really been shown around and just simple things such as where the light switches are would be nice! Just want to know if anybody got introduced to the other liveries or facilties or just left to figure it out yourself when moving yards. Sounds stupid but im one of them people that would rather muck out in the dark rather than ask where the lights are! :-)
 
I just kept myself to myslef when i first moved to current yard (about 2 years ago) but after a few weeks grew friendly with a few people in the stables where i tied horse up and got to know everyone. I got shown the school, fields etc...but that was about it and my yard seemed very posh when i first moved so i didn't even want to look anyone in the eye hehe. Now after being there almost 2 years i no longer think its that posh...super yard and people though :D
 
Haha the thing that makes it worse is I have a small pony and I just feel like im being judged for having and will feel uncomfortable riding in front of the other liveries. Im sure they will be fine and they all seem nice enough guess iv got to stop being stupid and get over it
 
We have got out own land etc here but not very much so my daughter has her 2 comp horses in livery. We were not really shown around at all just pointed in the general direction of where to keep out hay/ feed etc. Funniest thiing was when I was desperate for a wee (sorry!!) I would use our horses stable (sorry again ... stop reading if you want too lol). Desperatly praying nobody would come. 6 months after moving first horse onto this yard(and it is very very posh) I discovered that the last door in the stable yard is a toilet!!! Ever felt a fool!!! Sorry again, post in very bad taste! :p
 
Aww im sure its nothing like what you think. Its taken me a month to settle in to the yard with my first horse in 4 years but i asked questions and said a friendly "morning" to everyone i saw, even asking about and complimenting their horses :)

You'll soon settle in
Ive also got a pony (12.2hh 3yr old for driving) and dont worry about what people think to be honest, weve all got our preferences
 
I moved my horses nearly 2 years ago to what was a nice wee yard then with 7 stables, and was told no more than 12 going up.
20 stables later, much diminished grazing, infact stubble field for winter, gates hung with string and fences being broken with loose horses almost daily, yo at the back of you putting off the light leaving you in the dark, and complaining because you had the audacity to fill your water bucket i called it a day .
I now have a sole private let, with my own floodlit arena, 5 acres and lovely indoor stables, with horse shower and heatlamps, ooh and a locked heated tackroom.
The best move ive made :D:D:D And for the same money.
 
I moved to one yard with new horse. I was shown tack room previous to move, and stable.
Turned up, stable deep in **** and no empty saddle rack for tack, or anything else. Took all tack home. Spent ages mucking out stable with comments like, are you digging to Australia?

First day was told to turn horse out in paddock, which I did, then beratted for not having proof of worming. Next day turned up and horse had been turned out with another horse in different paddock, not impressed. Third day horse turned out and missing a shoe. Person that turned out didn't know if shoe was on when turned out!

I was DIY and turned up early as requested!!! Stayed there a whole week!

Moved to another yard, different horse. Chucked straight in with field full of geldings. Bit of a canter around, with others following, to suss it out, and never looked back. He had a lovely time playing and being a horse.

Only left as i moved house.

i moved a week and a half ago after buying the pony i had on loan (feels likes ive been there ages though!)

when i first went to look around i got shown 2 different stables that i could have, shown the school and saw the fields from a distance (lotss of fields & i had the choice where to put him), shown the barn & tack room/ storage room. also got given numbers of hay & bedding suppliers that deliver to the yard regularly. then was invited to come back on the saturday to meet the other liveries as no one else was there when i went to look.

was allowed down any time once i reserved the stable, went down day before i moved the horse to put down bed & take all my tools etc & everyone was very welcoming. moved horse in the eve so he went in his stable, then the next morning was asked to put him out on his own for a few days so he could settle which i was fine with (had horses in the field next to him, and grass so he was happy!) then at the weekend we started to introduce him to my friends horse & the 2 mares he was in with.

ive never moved yards with a horse before so was very pleased how well it went. everyone is so nice and welcoming and will help if i need it (first time actually owning rather than loaning so had some q's about ordering hay etc). def will be staying as long as i can! :)
 
I moved tona new yard last week, lovely yard, very posh, the place is so clean and tidy , fab indoor and outdoor schools etc. Well I recoving from operation so was not there the day my horse arrived, he was kept in for 24 hours as they worm them etc. Then he been getting turned out daily starting with one hour and building up to a full day over next two weeks, yard owner knows her stuff and is introducing him to her grass slowly to ensure he does not get colic. I was shown around the place when I first came to visit before I moved my horse there so know where everything is. Went up first time other day and the YO is lovely as our the staff. Have to say they made me feel welcome and I vary happy my horse is in good hands. Wished I'd moved here years ago :-)
 
We moved to a new yard last week and although I have been on the yard previously (5 years ago), we are now at another part of the yard and quite a few things have changed.
Although the owner was really helpful, me and my friend went back to the yard when we knew it would be quiet (week day about 11am). As there was no one there, we took the opportunity to have a good look round and really find our own way about.
If we were to bump into someone, then it would of been a good chance to admit we were a bit lost and ask then questions.
I am sure you will settle in really well and hope the pony settles too.
