Peoples jobs!

I'm a management consultant, which is not nearly as glamorous as most people seem to imagine. The pay is v good but the hours are long and locations erratic (my record being six months in Sakhalin, Russian Far East). I recently moved to a company that only works in SE England so should have a little more stability, so hoping to move out of London soon and ideally get a horse. Would have to be on full livery though!

As for what I'd like to be doing, my dream (with my OH) is to have a place in the South of France and run riding hols for experience adult riders, maybe combined with wine tasting and cooking classes on the non-riding days

I'm a computer programmer for the NHS. It's not my dream, but it's fine and I enjoy it most of the time - can't really think of anything I'd rather do (other than swan about my mansion after winning the lottery!). Would love to work fewer hours so I could spend more time with horse, dogs, OH, but then I couldn't afford the horse.

Worked as a groom for a few years after school and it's lovely sometimes (especially in the summer) but I wouldn't want to go back full-time, and running a livery yard doesn't appeal that much either (too many people problems).
 
I organise the sponsorship and trade stands for Your Horse Live. I love the job and work with some great people. It's getting very busy at the moment, as the show is getting closer, but I wouldn't swap it.
 
I am in marketing for a software company...like the job but would prefer to work from home again. I used to be self employed but had to go back into normal work to ensure a steady income on a monthly basis. When I was self employed I worked from home and would get up early, do a few hours work and then ride my horse!
 
My Part time job is riding instructor at local riding school, Also do a few odd jobs ie plaiting,grooming, pulling manes etc . My full time job is slave,taxis, mind reader, gopher, mother, wife, auntie, cook, cleaner, dog walker and agony aunt .

My husband has his business ....consisting of break down mechanic to plant machinery, Lorries and cars (including our own

) . He also is very good being Chief Moaner of the houshold

I'm a singing teacher, although I also teach flute and piano. It's great because it's as flexible as I can make it, I tend to be in schools in the morning, then have the afternoon to ride before teaching again in the evening. Bad points are the finishing quite late on an evening and then having to go do the horse, but it pays for her!

Dream job... same as now, but with more performance as well.
 
I'm a journalist, only work 30hrs during the week and have another job on a saturday to make up wages to full time level.
It's a nice, handy job during the week (I do the court reporting) but doesn't stretch me as much as I'd like a job to.
I've just started a dressmaking course (yes, random) because I want to be able to work from home in the future when kids come along, have always been interested in it anyway.
I don't know what my dream job would be, but if I can work horses, kids and a half decent house into the picture then I'd be happy enough!
 
Iam a nurse working in a dialysis unit caring for people with kidney failure. I work mostly night shift which allows my days free to do my 4 horses.

I would love to be a vet tho but was a bit of a tear away at school. How i wish i had listened to my mum!!
 
I'm a payroll administrator...boring, it pays for horse...just! My dream job, like puss_in_boots would be a wildlife reseacher or something similar. Not sure how i'd get into in though.

I've come to the conclusion that office work isn't really for me, think i'd rather be outside!
 
Work for an IFA, part of the investment services division valuing peoples pensions and investments, bascially an office pleb

I think I would like the breaking/schooling side of things within the horse industry but anything really, I'd enjoy most things.

i'm a commercial property lawyer doing mainly property development work and it is stressful and not at all glamorous but pays for house and pony (trying to persuade OH it pays for 2 ponies but he is not buying it!).
I would love to do something horsey related, ideally connected to eventing but haven't a clue what exactly! I am not confident or good enough to actually work with horses full time so it looks like I will be staying where I am for the time being....
 
I am an Alarm Centre Operative. I monitor several security alarm systems and cctv for a major telecomunications company. I do 48 hours a week and its four days on and four days off. My boy is on part livery so he is cared for for 4 days and then I do the other 4 days. Its very boring but pays well as I do days and nights! I would love to be a freelance photographer, preferably in the equine field!
 
What a variety of jobs everyone does, and mostly far more interesting than my own!
I work part time for a bank, on the front line as a personal banker, dealing with everything from general enquiries to opening new accounts. It's ok, but even though I only work 15 hours a week, the pressure to hit sales targets is phenominal.15 hours is enough, just, to pay for the equine activities,and it allows me to ride and generally run around being dogsbody to the rest of the family!
In an ideal world, I would run my own photography business....
 
I'm an insurance lawyer.

When I was trying to decide what to do for a living when I grew up, my mum managed to persuade me that there was no money in horses and that I should get a job that would pay enough to be able to keep horses as a hobby.

I told the careers advisor that I wanted to earn lots of money and not do any maths, I should sue him! I'm not earning lots of money and do have to do quite a lot of maths actually!

So that plan didn't pay off because I'm still not in a position where I can afford to live and eat and keep a horse!!! But then I'm not sure I would want to work full time with horses either.

If I could afford it I'd give up work and help my DH with his business full time but right now it isn't paying enough regularly enough to support us both. And realistically I'd probably do my nut if I was working with him as well as living with him.

Ah well I'll have to keep buying the lottery tickets...... either that or hope that DH gets "discovered" soon and starts making millions.......
 

Im a student Therapy Radiographer, in my last year now, finally qualify next June! Cant wait to get a job and spend my wages on my ponies!! At the minute i also work at Tesco at weekends

I am a HR officer at the big hospital in nottingham. I love it - majorly hard work but very rewarding when you realise what your doing has an impact on delivering services to excellent patient care

Also at uni doing my masters and work in a bar part time
 
I am a teacher of English in a secondary school. I teach 11-16 year olds and I love it, never a dull day, no two days the same. It is amazingly satisfying and rewarding.

BUT what I really love is: 6 weeks in the summer, 2 weeks Christmas and 2 weeks Easter, and of course 3 half terms! I am lucky to be able to spend so much time with my horses.

I own an equine supplement company which is hard work but great as I get to speak with some lovely people and help a lot of horses

I work term time only in the office of a tiny village infant and nursery school, and occasionally do classroom supervision if there is no Teaching Assistant around. I absolutely love my job, my offfice overooks a lovely TB stud so i have a field full of lovely youngsters to watch in the field, the kids and other adults i work with are lovely, my little girl goes there and unlike most people i have no desire at all to work with horses, i love mine to bits but i am more than happy with them being my hobby!
 
I'm an accountant which isn't as dull as it could be (currently work in a strategy team for a bank so I don't do proper accounts any more) and does pay the bills. Or at least it did til OH was made redundant and the horse had to go :-(
 
Im an event groom, i work part time at a yard, freelance for another rider, do some other freelance bits and bobs and teach at a riding school on a sunday. Occasionally i get a bit sick of horses!
