Pepsi ends sponsorship of Walking Horse Celebration

Something has gone seriously wrong with this breed.

Wrong, there's nothing wrong with the breed, but there's something seriously wrong with anyone who want to train a horse to do the 'big lick'. It's the stack/pads, soring and pastern weights and chains that make them move like that. These horses have such painful forelegs that are trying to carry most of their weight on their hind legs :(

I have to confess I have not read all of this thread, this has been going on for a long time it is disgusting and vile all to do with money and status.

Even that video of the horses light shod is still a joke there are people in the states promoting the natural walking horse and this is what should be encouraged, shoeing to give this weird gait and using chains is frankly still sick.

Although I am not a fan of multi nationals like pepsi the fact they have ended their sponsorship really is a good thing.

When you look at the extreme way they have these horses going it could only be achieved by pain, it is so deformed and if people can look at this and think it is not just normal but actually desirable it is going to take lots of hard work to make them realise it is disgusting and not even normal for a horse to move in this way.

If you can make people realise how these horses should be moving it may bring home to them how obscene and abnormal how they move and what is being done to them to make them like this.

I sometimes think if you could on a computer impose what the natural movement of these horses should be and then do the same to a human movement and explain the comparisons and what you would have to do to one of us then the message may hit home.

I think the pads and chains should be banned too.

Here's a video in 1999, a direct comparison of a flat shod and Big Lick. http://www.walkinonranch.com/celebrationrides.html

The same horse in above video doing a dressage in gait demo in 2011. Wonder what the Big Lick horses in the 1999 video are doing now? :(

A CNN report explaining the reasoning for the abuses. As if there is a reason! :(

Whilst its fantastic that Pepsi have pulled out, one has to wonder how much background research is done BEFORE sponsorship take place!
I can only imagine how those poor animals lives are shortened by the treatment they receive at the hands of idiots like the muppet with the cattle prod.
The horrid way they have to rock to even be able to get up off the floor.
Awful:(
