I used to ride a TBx Percheron in America. My favorite horse of all time. Wish I'd bought him and brought him back to the UK. He'd have been a star for sure.

Anyway, I am contemplating finding a Percheron stallion for my TB broodmare next year. Anyone produced this cross and what were the offspring like? Percherons seem far more popular in USA but I do not see or hear of many here in UK. If there a reason for this???

Anyone know of any Percheron stallions at stud?

We have two pure percherons by Lime Trappeur from Hasholme stud in yorkshire. One is the right hand horse in my sig, he's on his first trip out of the yard under saddle. They have fab temps and a reasonable shapes. Percheron/TB is a nice cross, as are most heavy horse/TB's

I think the main reason they arn't as popular over here is that we have our own indiginous heavy breeds unlike america where they're all imported.

There are a couple local to me, who are ex-Brewery heavy Horse people. They were telling me that they cross a percheron Mare with an Andalusian Stallion to make what they called a Norman Horse, they said it was the best driving horse ? I'd never heard of it before.

Theres someone on here who breeds Norman horses. Does sound a nice cross, wouldn't mind having a go with one. Always fancied doing the rue de poission.... or Heavy horse HDT. But hey, i have access to the scrooge! lol

Percheron X TBs are incredibly common and quite popular over here in Canada, possibly because they are still used as working animals, so crossing them to make riding horses available to the open market is fairly easy.

I have one living on my yard and he is a very gentle giant however he is much heavier than most of the P X TBs I see around, so you would have to decide what sort of weight you are looking for when doing the cross.
