he's five months old, a black lab, and very laid back, and has only really been so bad over the last few months. he is fed Auktury (sp) puppy/junior, has never tasted human food, and the only difference is that hubs used to soak it, then didn't, now does again. His poos are quite sloppy, either way, especially after the first offering. he's fully wormed, etc.

It's bad - a stinky fart every five minutes. We've been looking at charcoal tablets, but my gut feeling is the vet.

Any advice more than welcome - do i need to invest in a gas mask ?

He is so cute!
I would prob change food as first port of call- its a good food but obviously doesn't suit him. If he is well in himself in all other ways id change rather quickly- give it a couple of weeks on the New food and see how he goes if no change maybe trip to vets then. Obviously if not ok in himself i would guess you would have taken him already- my lab can be gassy tho at times, he is on skinners now as needed low protein for shooting but he no longer is smelly! X

many many years ago a dog I had suffered badly from wind, dog foods have come on a lot since back then so I didn't change foods but I did go with the charcoal and it worked for my old boy,

thankyou so much guys ! I wish I'd paid more attention to that ingredient list, rather than the "herbal" packaging. Have shown hubs all these replies, and have convinced him it's time to change. I am going to gradually introduce another food, and take up other suggestions made as well.

Thank you so much again, much appreciated. x

Shysmum did I read somewhere you had another dog who was on JWB?

my current girl is on that and I haven't had a stinky day with her yet, it could be easier for you in the long run if both dogs are fed the same?

as I said earlier the only time I had a stinky dog was many many years ago, when complete foods were unheard of and dogs were fed left overs and maybe one variety of Pedigree chum tinned existed, so my experience of tooting dogs is quite minimal lol

Having had a dog who had a gastric torsion I now never complain if my dog breaks wind. In fact my motor is " burping and farting are good"
Try feeding raw.....as nature intended

As often as I advocate raw, it just doesn't suit everyone and sometimes, it doesn't suit the dog.as long as you know what the ingredients are and that they're good, I don't think one type of food/feeding is the be all and end all of how it should be.

This post has prompted me to do my own research - this appears to be a great site.

It does indicate that the Eden dog food is highly rated, although I'm utter confused, as it's rated higher than my recommendation, but I'd be worried this is far too much protein for a Labrador - anyone have any thoughts ? Sorry for hijacking the thread slightly OP

After a trip round a pet store today, we must have looked at 20 bags of dog food, and the ingredients. We were astounded at what actually goes into them. And what does not. I can't believe I've never thought to check seriously before, like I do for Shy's food.

We haven't made a final choice yet, onto the net to do more research. The old girl is on JWB senior, so we can't really put him on that. if we are going to be spending £40 a bag :eek: I do want to get it right.

On another note, the lad has presented us with no less that five baby teeth over the last week ! he is soo good, chewing his teething ring, and another tooth pops out onto the carpet. He's such a good lad.

If the dog is an adult and on high protein, as long as it's quality sources of protein, you should be fine.

Do you feed Shy straights? Cos that's what raw is for dogs ;)

Thanks Cinnamontoast... you think you're doing right by your dog, but I want the next best thing to raw. May give Eden a try and see how we get on.

Looks good, actually, although I'm not sure the potato is good for much bar filler, but loads better than cereal. Lots of joint supplements:

Ingredients: Chicken, 19%, Chicken 17% (from Dried Chicken), Salmon, 16%,
Herring 14% (from Dried Herring), Potato 10%, Sweet Potato 5%, Chicken Fat 5%, Duck 4% (from Dried Duck), Whole Egg 3% (from Dried Egg), Chicken Gravy 2%, White Fish 2%, Lucerne, Pea Fibre, Mineral & Vitamins, Carrot, Spinach, Apple, Joint Support Pack (Glucosamine (355mg/Kg), MSM (355mg/Kg) & Chondroitin (250mg/Kg)), Rosehips, Camomile, Burdock Root, Aniseed & Fenugreek, Mixed Herbs (Thyme, Marjoram, Oregano and Sage) Seaweed, Cranberry and Prebiotic FOS

you don't need to fork out £40 for JWB, try him on the 1.5kg bag first at @£8. Much cheaper and if no good, could be fed to your oldie. The only difference between the feeds is the amount of protein. 2 of mine are on JWB with a bit of butchers plus liver biscuits. 3rd is JD mobility as has elbow displaysia.

No help I am afraid as my lot are now raw fed and only have wind when they have stolen something!

I was intrigued as to how you were going to get a picture of Percy's wind and am rather grateful it is just a picture of him looking utterly gorgeous.
