Perfect lower leg position

[ QUOTE ]
LOL, this was taken just after - you can just about see his stirrup making a bid for freedom (quality isn't great as I had to reduce the size)

Ok, that's the worst pic I've seen of Dickie

Miss De Meena has a super leg position over a fence.

Why thankyou!!

Here are a couple that i think i like (of my lower leg anyway)

As to who i think has the best.. it's got to be Lucinda Green and Mary King... BUT one of the stranger lower legs belongs to Mr Stickability himself, Andrew Nickelson.. proving that lower leg position isn't the be all and end all of XC riding...

Will upload some of Rodrigo Pessoa from the world cup, lovely legs

. On a more serious note I think xc and sj lower legs should differ. XC you should always be slightly more behind the movement and with more weight into the heel, wheeas you want to be more flexible show-jumping. Which were you thinking of HJ?

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree too, showjumping, leg on the girth. Xc lower leg slightly infront of the girth...

Thats what i mean the sjing of Squeaky is great, the other two Holly wont like, as their landing ones
wink.gif

The one of you riding Dr Jazz thats a good example too.

yup, can see what you mean

Can I ask one thing which I've always wanted to know - how on earth do those stirrups work?

Sorry, I have to disagree re: SJing, stirrups are shorter and therefore for the heel to stay under the hip and therefore have optimum suspension, it has to be behind the girth - if you jump big fences with your leg on the girth you are either rather short or have long stirrups - but that is just my opinion obviously

That's when they tried to stop me from taking photos as people had a habit of falling off at the time - got a photo of Andrew Nicholson falling off at Blenheim that year as well in the cross country.

I was amazed how long most of the sj'ers rode at the world cup - must try and stretch my legs obviously, then i will ride like them
grin.gif
! Will upload some more, some from that not too flattering moment when the front legs are just leaving the ground, and a cople demonstrating how un-weight in the heel some of them ride!

and to back-up what i just said above.. another one, this time taking off....
and weezy, since when did people ride SHORTER showjumping than they did XC ??

(and in this pic.. ok i can't vouch for her hight, but she sure isn't riding long)

So agree with you! His position isn't attractive but secure.

I wondered that too, Rich always said that if Helena and Marie-Anne ever rode short like we do for xc they would be thrown straight out of the saddle.

Now I disagree with that! You watch some of the SJ'ers, the really class ones, their legs are like Mary Kings, don't slide back at all, don't move an inch!

Bless him.
And a baby squeaky!

Okay so your heal isnt down, but bloody hell i would be happy with a lower leg position like that.
Yogis tips were good, i really do need to practise more.

Have my jumps up ready for tomorrow so will practise

Well I'm only quoting a 3 time olympic gold medalist, it does depend on different peoples styles I guess! You won't see many jump at that level with their legs infront of the girth. She's one of my favs though, her legs hardly move, can't bear it when you see legs flying all over the place!

Seriously, go look for pictures of any of the top 10 in the world, you will be VERY hard pushed to find an SJer (Meredith is an exception to the rule) that has their leg ON the girth.

They don't, infact I know people who put them down a hole after XC for SJ. Mdm I would say her leg was on the girth and not infront which was what I said...
