Our 12 hander is currently on 1mg/day up from 500mcg/day from Autumn 2006 to Dec 2007. Vet calculated initial dosage with a view to increasing it if necessary.
This post is really of interest to me, as I want to ask sooooooooooooo many questions on Cushings and how you manage your horses, turn out wise and Pergolide/Medication wise ..... I will put a post with my questions on eventually .......
My 14.3 was initially on 1mg Pergolide from Oct 2005 to July 2007, but when he had suspected Laminitis again and he was looking more like a Cushings horse, then my Vet increased the dosage to 1.5 mg ...
My horse is currently on 500 mcg per day (15.2 TB x Cob) and had noticed she was getting really stiff in her front legs. Initially I thought it was arthritis, but then read an article on Cushings yesterday which said that a horse can get stiff in front (not really read this before on other websites) so im thinking that her dosage is not enough.
Has your horses dips above eyes came back?
Before Lacey was on Pergolide they where like golf balls, then went on pergolide and went down a bit but not fully??

Motor's dips above the eyes, went down after starting on the Pergolide and now 3 years on they are very prominent .... which I believe happens naturally as they get older anyway
500 mcg a day, is a very low dose .... I think that is 1/3rd of what Motor is on at 14.3 hands .....
Our 12 hh pony is on 1 mg a day. We dropped her down to 500 mg a day during the very dry summer 2 years ago but as soon as the grass starts showing green she is back up to 1mg. Since being on the pergolide the pads above her eyes have reduced quite a bit but have never managed to get rid of the crest on her neck. Would agree that 500mg seems quite a small dose for a 15.2..
Hi
I had my old horse with Cushings on Pergolide. I no longer give him Pergolide but he is now on an herbal forumla that has enabled me to completely stop the Pergolide. It costs half as much an have seen amazing results. He doesn't sweat any longer, his fuzzy coat shed out completely to a shiny coat and he is moving very fluid now, not stiff anymore. I feel like the Pergolide was just masking the problem where this is actually helping his body heal itself. If you are interested, you can email me for the info and I'll be glad to share with you.
