My 16.hh hand mare is on 1000mg witch is one tablet a day the vet said this is enought the only reason i ask you guys are for the dosage and heights of your horses with cushings so i can compare? how do i know this will be enought for her?xx

the use of of pergolide is a bit of a hit and miss job im afraid...its a bit of a wait and see....you can ask your vet to do a blood test to see if the coorect levels are in the blood....then your vet will probably up or down the dosage to suit....hope this helps..x

Most vets start the horse of with 0.5mg per horse per day, and then gradually increase in 0.25 mg steps until the symptoms improve. 1 mg would be a failrly standard dose ( I assume it's 1 mg which your horse is on which is the equivalent of 1000 micrograms.)
If that's insufficient to control the cushings related symptoms your vet can gradually up the dose, but if high dosages are required these can have side effects like inappetance.

This is just the question I have tried to get answered. It appears that you have had a better response here than I did in Vets, so well done

My 14.3hh is on 1.5mg a day and has been on this dose for about 18 months now. For the previous 2 1/2 years he was on 1mg a day, but following a suspected further attack of the dreadful, Laminitis and the fact he was looking like a 'Cushings Pony' (quote from my lovely Vet

) it was increased. He is looking really good now and no one thinks he is a Cushings boy

I spoke to another, very trusted Vet at the practice and his view was, for Motor's size, 1 mg was the minimum dose he should be on

.... this was following me asking similar questions which you seem to be asking here.

Good luck and let's see some pics of you horse, as this all helps with us 'fellow sufferers' understanding the condition.

ETS ... I vaguely remember the Vet saying that he could go up to 4mg a day, which I found quite frightening for some reason

Thanks guys she is 16hh and is on 1mg tablet a day from half a one. I was just wondering if this sounded enough but people say it all depends on your horse to what dose the vets give to look at my girl and you would not say she had cushings no curly coat does not wee or dink more the only reason i fpond out was she had a bout of lammi so had bloods done and came back high insullinj levels!x
