as stated above. my little guy is an 8 yr old cushings pony and was put on 1g of pergolide daily and i just got the vet bill for 100 tablets and to say the least i am very shocked so was wondering how much they are costing you and if my bill is the going rate

p.s. i might need scraping of the roof as i am am so shocked and don't know that i can affoard the cost of these tablets at this price
 
Hi - Not sure how much they are but my horse may have to go on them and the vet had already said its cheaper to get them on perscription than from him - I would guess its the same from all vets so may be worth asking for a perscription

Ask you Vet for a prescription. There will be a charge for it, but prob still less than the cost of the tabs from them. The Chemist will prob have to order them in for you.
 
Have a look online at suppliers. I use VetMedPlus for my horse's Metacam (£50 per bottle= two weeks supply, via my vet, £31.85 delivered via VMP) Even with the price of the prescription (about £7.50 I think) I'm quids in and their service is fantastic.
 
My local chemist charged around £22 for x50 1mg tablets last weekend. I did have to pay for a prescription from the vet but it still works out cheaper. Pergolide does come in different strengths and I have found it cheaper to buy the 1 mg and split with a pill splitter if need be.
 
Last time I bought them (about 2 months ago) was £38 for 100 1mg tablets. Haven't yet had to pay for a prescription but reckon a chemist will still be cheaper. My vet advised me to go to chemist, said they couldn't compete price wise.
 
ok i think you need to ring the provider and check as that is seroiusly SERIOUSLY over priced!!!!!
if it was meant to be £35.41 or 48 thats much better!
Id honestly get that checked, then call your vet ask about getting a prescription from them and checking your chemist for prices etc as there are WAAAAAAY more places aroudn that will do it much cheaper

Looks like a computer data entry c**k up to me. Ring & speak to the practice manager & ask them to check it for you.
That computer system can trick less than wary staff into causing that sort of accidental overpricing.

If they insist that is correct price , suggest you ask for a prescription- and return most of the tablets to them for a credit. I would be staggered if they don't apologise & sort it out straight away though!
 
When I got my first lot of pergolide from the vets nearly 5 years ago I had 30 tablets and it came to nearly a £100. At the time the manufacturer had the sole licence to make them - suppose so they could get some of their Research and development money back. Since then their exclusive licence has expired and other manufacturers are allowed to make it. and so it is much more competitive in price. This has caused the price to drop. My vets would now be about £1 a tablet but the chemist is even cheaper.
Interested to see if they will take them back as my vets say thay are no longer allowed to accept unused drugs back.
 
If you weren't in Scotland, I'd think you had the same (ex) vet as me. They were prone to little discrepancies in the bill!

Call the practice manager to query it. I'm sure they'll admit their mistake!
 
I've just ordered the first lot from my vet - same prescription as yours & they have quoted me just over £72. I'll pay this time as I want to get her on them asap, but am def. going to look into cheaper options.
