Am getting a prescription from the vet for this for my cushings pony. Understand you can get it far cheaper off the internet or from chemists??? Could someone advise where's best to get it please? Thanks!
Ask your local Pharmacy to order it for you. As long as you have a script from the Vet it shouldn't be a prob.
There does appear to be a prob getting the 1mg tabs at the moment tho, so ask your Vet to write the script for the dose rather than the strength of tablets. That way they can supply you with the 250mcg ones.
I have been using Hyperdrug, but had a bit of an issue with them, so am now hoping to use Vets Uk, however you cannot phone them and everything has to be carried out by email, which is not really brilliant, so will be interested to read your responses.
I have used Sainsbury in the past, but I find it a chore to get to them, park up, walk in and then wait ... I am so impatient
No, you'll get charged the drug price including their mark up. Can't tell you what that will be, but will defo be cheaper than the Vet!
You must be paying Vet a prescription charge too, but it still works out cheaper. Mainly because Pharmacy Wholesalers are able to buy in large amounts at better prices, then Vet wholesalers who don't get such good deals.

So whats charged if I get it from my local chemist? Just the standard prescription fee (£6ish)?! That cant be right?

You just get a quote from your Chemist and then take the Script to the Chemist, which you have paid the £6 ish for and then buy your Pergolide. It usually still comes out cheaper than buying from your Vet, however it is worth asking the Vet for a quote
BTW. Your prescription charge is set by the government, and is taken off the price of the drugs your Pharmacist supplies, before they are reimbursed by the PPA.

I rang up a few independents in our local town and the Co-op were the cheapest - make quite sure you get the tablet strength exact as the price for say 4 packets of 100 x 250 mcg tablets might not be as cheap as getting one box of 100 x 1000mcg tablets - if they are available. I just said, 'so that is £x for 100 1mg tablets?' to clarify.
Even though they are tasteless, a 1mg tablet is easier to get down than 4 x 250mcg ones!
