Hi, can anyone tell me the difference between these 2 drugs please? One is cheaper but both say they are used to treat PPID/cushings. My old pony has been on Prascend for years, 1 tablet a day, so just wondering as I order 160 at a time, if I can save myself a few quid buying the Pergoquin? Tia

They both look the same to me so my guess would be that Prascend has come off patent and now other companies can start manufacturing and selling the drug. Probably best to check with your vet though to be sure. I only had a quick look but it didn't look that much cheaper to me? My horse is on two a day now though so I'd be interested if it is significantly cheaper somewhere and is a viable alternative.

This they always used pergolide then the name changed to prascend but its the same.

Yes it used to be dead cheap, prescribed off licence because there was nothing else. Then Prascend licenced it, which costs a lot of money. Once there is a licence drug available the vets must use it. The price shot up and the drug is protected for a time to let them earn that money back. I assume the licence has now expired and Pergoquin is competing with Prascend. They are both trade names for the same drug. The same thing happened with omeprazole/Gastroguard/Peptizole.

Same drug. I switched to it this time for two reasons.
Firstly it’s cheaper! Which is always good!
Secondly the tablets are round and marked to split into quarters instead of just halves which is easier for me as I have one pony on quarter and one on 3 quarters.
