permanent stable stains - any bright ideas for removal? (also in SY)

Got a grey horse with very stable stained brown knees and fetlocks........ none of the standard whitening/brightening shampoos are working...

does anyone have any tried and tested miracle cleaning techniques?

It is coming off very very slowly with bathing him every day, but I'm getting fed up of the brown knee look lol!!
 
When i was a child i used to have a very pale chestnut roan pony, he would go cream in the summer and he used to get filfthy.

We always used fairy liquid to scrub all his stains off before shows.

Very cheap and used to work brilliantly for us.

Might be worth a try?
 
If is because of keeping him on stable mats, i found that the only thing that worked was waiting for the coat to change :( Its the urine and ammonia that does it.
 
Don't talk to me about mats and light coloured horses! My mare is sporting a yellow neck at the moment, she's not clipped and even with a nice wash box with hot water it's a trial to get the stains out!

Have you tried Cowboy Magic Yellow Out? It's not that easy to find over here, but I think KM elite sell it. Friends with paint horses swear by it.
 
I always found the best thing was White N'Brite. I used to find it difficult to get hold of but was the only thing that worked for my coloured.
 
Okay I have a FILTHY grey so I know what you are going through!
I have tried so many shampoos/products/sprays/tricks it's unreal but here are a few things that have really helped me;

I know you said you've tried loads of shampoo's but have you tried Cowboy Magic? When someone first mentioned it to me I just thought oh great here we go again another one that won't work but it is the best thing for stains ever so I always have bottle handy! I use the Cowboy Magic Shine-In, Yellow-Out one which is simply brilliant.

The best sponge to use in co-junction with the shampoo is one of those standard 'pouf' sponges (google image search - pouf sponge if you don't know what I mean! But they really work in getting stains out, rather than your standard sponge/cloth and they're only about 99p from a supermarket.

Another tip I have used is white vinegar which can help to initially shift a really stubborn stain that's been sitting there for a good while.

the only way seems to be to not let them sit on the bl**dy horse for more than 24hrs! religious sponging off every day - just water or ordinary shampoo! not that i have the dedication to do this - current grey spent most of the summer with a permanent streak down one buttock all the way down to his hock! nice!! And be warned - even with a woolly winter coat - if it gets bad enough, the skin will get stained too so even clipping doesn't give an instant fix. :(
 
The Blue Fairy Liquid works wonders on grey horses (its only £1 per bottle in tesco just now too!!) We buy that much that i think we are keeping them in business!!
 
wash stains off every time you see them. wash off with cheap shampoo initially, then use a blue shampoo. blue bags are good to get a grey really white. if its mainly knees and hocks getting dirty put a barrier on those areas like vaseline, as a preventative. and maybe a bigger bed? it is an on going job to keep greys clean. I know I am going to get soundly chastised.... but..... Cillitt Bang.
It works on hocks, fetlocks and tail for my coloured horse. Spray on, rub gently, rinse well.
Never had a problem with aggravating his skin.
 
If your horse will stand still with foot in a bucket this works great, warm water and bicarbonate of soda mixed in- it kind of fizzes up and the stains go quite easily with a little shampoo after. Soda water works too but gets quite expensive. as you need at least 4 big bottles per wash. Anyhting that fizzes the water works ok really even steradent for dentures but you need a full tube!
Have found that spray on vanish works well the oxi action one but only leaver it on for 1 minute max, never done any harm to mine but always best to be safe.
Can you tell I used to have a super disgusting grey.
Chalk powder ina paste left to dry then brushed off always good too .

When I used to have a grey horse he was a horror for stable and grass stains I used to use Vanish soap on his tail and dirty bits - stains came off no problem and it is heaps cheaper than the "horsey" stuff - anything with "horse" on it tends to be mega expensive - I am sure the manufacturers think that we are all rich - I wish :p
