Have you ever had a horse that you didnt like to start with?? But after a while he/she grew on you??

When Roo went lame I was offered a friends horse to ride, he's sweet so I agreed. He's not naughty but he was out of my comfort zone and a little too quirky for my liking. Started feeling nervous to ride him and generally not wanting to ride.
But I persevered, and now we're finally starting to get somewhere :D He's calmed down this last week and is working nicer. I think it just took a while for us to trust each other.

My riding instructor said tonight that we suit each other :D And that I have the ability to bring him on :D
 
Yep! Never should have been persuaded to get my 14.2hh 'jumping pony' when I was 16. i just didn't click with him. He looked fantastic and showed a very powerful jump and we saw videos of his jumping with a previous owner etc. Saw him twice, took an instructor with me, she thought his jump was amazing and that we could work on slowing down the rushing. So, we bought him and turns out I was right and since then I always trusted my instinct when it comes to choosing horses.

However 16/17 years later I still have him as couldn't bring myself to sell him. he was not consistent jumping wise, he was too panicky (someone ruined him way before i got him and I found out he'd been passed around via dealers etc a fair few times before i got him). He was and still is a neurotic little soul and when i decided actually jumping him was no fun and was in fact dangerous he essentially lived the life of riley just hacking out etc ( although he's not 100% doing that either). I wouldn't change it all now though as i would not have got my horse had I not had him and he is a very sweet little pony and calmed down so much over the years we've had him - he trusts people a lot more now but is still a sensitive soul.

I would always trust my first instinct with horses now though, it's worked ever since him and did before, he was my one 'glich'!
 
Yep! I had one like this. I stuck with him and we became a great team!

Stick at it, sounds like you are enjoying him now :)

Glad you're not missing out on riding at the moment RG and that you've made such progress with the gelding you're riding. Expect it will stand you in good stead for when you're back on Roo again!
