We're at a total loss about this so figured I'd ask the h&h hivemind. My 16 year old cob started snorting/sneezing/nose-clearing in late spring of last year. It was primarily when working, but also occasionally in the field (living out 24/7 from apnout march onwards). Vet advised it was likely a pollen allergy as so many had it this , and we tried a variety of supplements with varying effect. She had one course of Ventipullmin to se if that would give her system enough time to calm down whatever reaction it was having. It worked when she was on it, but reverted as soon as the course was over. It was manageable for the rest if the year but then in September got worse again. She is now stabled overnight and in a turnout pen during the day (fields are too wet to graze 🥲) On vet's suggestion, we did:
Blood Test (all normal)
Parasite panel (waiting on results)
Another course of ventipullmin (with no effect)

She doesn't have any of the classic markers for asthma. I'm just at such a loss for what to do. I hate to see her uncomfortable and it's definitely impacting her wellbeing. Does anyone have any suggestions/experiences? I've spent more time chasing the vet for results then actually speaking to them, is it worth a second opinion? Sorry for the novel, I truly appreciate if anyone has made it this far!!

Might be worth walloping in with human anti histamines?
They can have a significant effect on equine allergy, ‘asthma’ /copd / roa/ latest acronym.
There is a helpful contribution from Claret 09 on this forum, somewhere, worth reading - PM?
The polyp is worth ruling out, too. Good luck.

I will go hunting for that, thank you very much. No luck prior with piriton but could be worth another go

😀 there are (cheap, over counter) families of antihistamine. Some years ago, my vet prescribed a tub of Piriton, unfortunately unhelpful, but a load of loretadine from supermarket worked well - maybe experiment a bit.
I'd always assumed antihistamine was antihistamine 🙈 Thank you very much, we'll definitely give that a try!

Tracheal wash to clear out whatever is currently there; depending on results ABs, sputulosin, dust free bedding, soaked/steamed hay at ground level, nebuliser, Foran Airvent, increase fitness and regular fast workouts to help clear any crap in the airways.

I did know one horse once that was completely allergic to any hay/haylage/straw. He was bedded on wood pellets and lived off trugs of grass pellets and simple systems feeds quite successfully, plus grass in summer obviously, which cured it.

I had a horse that suffered over summer with pollen and giving him 10-15 cetirizine tablets twice a day helped, I bought the generic unbranded ones in bulk from online pharmacies.

Thank you, lots to consider there! A trachea wash hadn't been mentioned at all, I'll definitely enquire about that
