Who’s got it and what have you got?

good providers? Ones to avoid?

anyone had to make a claim?

I have BHS gold 3rd party and obviously didn’t read the small print as it doesn’t cover for the multiple broken bones I’ve had ?
I don’t have a desk job so really it’s a huge lack of foresight I don’t have it.

I am self employed and I have
1) life insurance - lump sum bigger than the mortgage if I die
2) critical illness that pays off the mortgage if I get really ill / disabled
3) 'family' cover that pays a monthly amount to either me or my OH if either of us die / terminally ill of £fixed amount k p.c.m until my youngest is 21 y/o
4) loss of income - if I / OH can't work for any reason for more than 3 months for illness / injury of any sort than we get a monthly amount to compensate.

These cover horse riding but also all the other potential life disasters !

It's really expensive but riding only policies seem really inadequate if I couldn't work.

I have income protection/ loss of income protection insurance instead of a CIC. You can set it to start paying your salary after a day or a few months, whatever suits you. For me it makes more sense than a critical illness because it will cover for much more and I thought the injuries I was more likely to get from horses wouldn't be covered by a CiC but would from the income protection.

The policies to cover horse riders are more expensive, particularly if you event. It's well worth going to a broker who knows about horse riders, a lot of insurers won't cover us. If you'd like a recommendation ping me a pm, I'm not linked to them, just used them as a customer.
