Personal space issue when spooked

My horse is 110% to handle in every way, he is a real gentleman - expect when he is spooked. His flight response comes into his brain without any thought for my feet!!

How can I teach him not to run into me?

As I say, he is very well mannered otherwise. Doesn't walk into me, stays out of my space, backs up etc etc.

A longer leadrope so he can go to the end of it rather than on top of you.

I tried that, but he tends to run towards me rather than away. He loves me LOL!!!

Stick your elbow out, he'll soon learn that you have spiky bits. He needs to be aware that there is a 2ft barrier around you that he can't barge into. No matter how big the monster is.

Go onto Horsehero.com there is a video with Richard Maxwell about just this and he teaches a lady who horse gets 'on top of her' how to deal with it effectively.
