i would really like a dog!!

but my mum and dad are really against the idea! anybody got any tips on persuading parent to buy me a dog.

I am aware of the time and money owning a dog brings and i am prepared to do all i can to take care of the dog, as i would also be the main carer lol.

please help me!! also any ideas on what breeds are the calmest and sensible as i have 2 guinea pigs lol

Have you tried ...
Throwing yourself to the ground and becoming histerical,
Threatening to hold your breath,
Refusing to eat your greens,
Crying,
and the other approach ...
Washing up every day just because you want to,
Cleaning the car,
Putting vacuum round without being asked,
Having a word with Nan (or another allie)

These are all the things my OH tries with me. Sometimes they work.

lol. i dot he vacuming anyway. and wash my dads car after going over to the stables lol. not eating greens! thats a deadly sin lol

thanks for ther tips, i'll give them a go

Or do what I did and leave home and buy my own home and keep it there

Or start bullying them for another brother or sister and then they will buy you a dog instead...

The trouble is, your parents know that although you may look after the dog now, once you leave home in a few years time, they will be left caring for the dog for many more years after you've gone, and perhaps they are not prepared to do that.

Remember a dog is for life, not just for Christmas!

I do pity you though; I can't imagine how it must be for a child not to have a dog.

get a family friend to make their bitch have puppies! thats how i got one anyway, wanted one since i was about 5 and mum and dad said "no, never!". then our family friend had puppies so we went to see them (not to buy, apparently) and came home with one

Can't help but agree with Tia.........and if your parents are really dead against the idea what sort of life will the dog have if you do manage to wear them down? Are their reasons for not letting you have one valid?

I got a dog when my horse was put down! But little daphne was put down this summer so we are now dogless again. Been trying to persuade the parentals to get another but they both work full time, I come home about once every 2 months and they might be moving to city (However, i cant see this happening for some time) but I still want a dog.

Getting down on the floor, starting to kick and punch the floor while screaming 'Iwant a dog' Its not working!

right im gonna say this then im gonna go hide

lmao, stop being a brat

, mum and dad dont want one for their own reasons, this should be good enough. i expect when there ready they'll get one.

xx

Sorry but how very selfish!!! What about what's best for the dog?

lol. i have been trying to persuade them on and off over the years with my sister, but last year my sister moved out and i don't have anything to do anymore, cause normally we would sit and do each others nails ect ect. im not 1 of them spoilt kids who gets what they want when they want it, as im currently in the process of paying my mum back for my body protector and hat that she got me, though i only have to pay back 1/2

. i don't get pocket money, though if i do go out i have to borrow some money off of dad norms about £15 of his £15 of my money! recently discovered how much fun it actually is to have a dog when my aunt came up for christmas and brough her dog with her, despite being dragged through mud it was loads of fun. my sister left about 2hours ago to go back to her flat and i miss her already! i'll try not to be bratty jackie36 and you can come out of hiding

thanks for everybodys advice!!

Looking after a dog isn't as easy as just walking it though. Don't forget the vets bills, vaccinations, feed, bedding, treatments, clipping etc your parents are going to have to pay for if you get one. My dog cost me £50 a month ago due to choking as she ate too fast. Emergency call outs are not pleasant! They may think you'll lose interest. It took me years to persuade my parents to let me get another dog (we've owned dogs in the past) and eventually I was allowed (aged 16) but I pay for every little thing.
The dog alone was £250 (Pedigree mini schnauzer) she is now 5 and a half years old and we wouldn't be without her. It can be hard. You have to spend a lot of time and effort training your dog. Toilet training is messy and time consuming! They wake you in the night like a baby would. I'm not trying to put you off, just giving you an idea what it's like.

All else fails you could get a Nintendo DS and get Nintendogs for it

Is there a dog rescue centre near you? Perhaps you could volunteer to help out there which may help your parents realise that you are serious about wanting a dog. Plus you'll also get an idea of the work involved with having a dog.

Perhaps your parents dont want a puppy because all the training/clearing up etc? They may be more willing to have an older dog who is hose trained etc (worked with my OH so I can get a dog when we move).

Is there an old person near you who has a dog that needs walking? That could be a compromise.
I'm afraid I'm on your parents side. A dog lasts a long time & you will probably want to go to college. Is there anyone at home all day - it's not fair to leave them on their own. And what about the expense - it's probably far more than you realise.
We used to have 2 Springer Spaniels & I would love to have another dog, but I know that our lifestyle, with no one in during the day, would not be fair on the dog or the neighbours.

i used to walk my neighbours pug and take care of her when she went on holiday but she died of a heart attack last month

was thinking of an older rescue dog who just needs some tlc. people round my area either have their own kids to walk their dog or walk the dog themselves, theres the snotty people at the end of our road but i have never spoken to them as they always give me dirty looks!!

think i may give up and when i move out get my own lol. thankies for all the tips though evree boddiee

Well, to be fair, your parents will be looking at the comitment a dog is and thinking that if you got fed up of it/move away to uni whatever they will be lumped with up.
Maybe see if your parents are happy to let you help out at a rescue home for the time being then get a dor yourself when you are older and have a place of your own.

I begged and Begged And begged for a dog (we already had Bassets) but I wanted something that is full of life and that comes with me to rides..... It was STILL a big NO! even up until 28 as still living at home that time now i am 29 and living on me own and guess what... i have me own dog!!!!

Understandably about your parents not wanting you to have a dog cos you are at the age that you should be having life not responsibly... I went round the world for 10 months... then travelled all over the world with job.... i realised why my parents don't want me to have a dog. It's okay that i had a horse then which went out on loan.

I do feel for you... I WAS so desperate then!!!

going through the same thing at the minute would love to have a dog i work at my local kennels to earn my money for my 2 horses (which by the way 3 years ago my mum was scared of horses and said it would never happen)i pay for everything my mum is in two minds she wants a dog to walk so she can get some exersise but doesn't want it to reck the house so ill see what happens i find normally showing how responsible and dedicated you are works and if they go and see one and fall in love there is no stopping them (my mum loves my 1st pony the appy more then i do after going to see her after the 5 time she was perswading me to buy her lol which i had to pay 1/2 towards) only problem is i nolonger have money to spend on my self (chose to get the second horse insted to keep my 1st one company)

Be patient my partner had to wait until she was 23 and she wore me down instead but the rewards are there. Be warned though they like horses can be expensive, our Norton was diagnosed with Cushings disease and £75 per month plus bi-monthly consultation fees can be a bitter pill to swallow...but well worth it - get a flatcoat.
