Had the back lady out today and she has recommended that I lunge my horse once per week in a Pessoa. So, as I have never lunged (!) got a friend to give me a lesson today. This went ok, so as he seems ok to lunge decided to take the plunge and do this on a regular basis. However, I have just had a look on Ebay and am hoping you can advise whether I need the actual Pessoa, or whether some of the other brands are equally as good? Prices seem to vary a lot and whilst I am happy to buy what is required I don't want to waste money as I have had a lot of expense with him recently.

Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom. :)

I bought one of the cheaper versions a few years ago and was impressed with the quality and workmanship, however the sizing was way off - the 'Full' size I bought was too small for my 15.3hh warmblood

I did have a townend one which was brilliant and came with a great roller too, but when I was leading a horse out of the school in it (Clipped back so no pressure on the head) she spooked and it caught on the gate latch which caused it to snap and fire back at the mare, nearly killing me. But that was just an accident, otherwise I'd highly recommend one.

I have the zilco one which you can find on rideaway online, it is about £30 and is adjustable enough for a dinky 13.2 and a full up 16.2. Word of advice though, if it is just for one horse I would find the optimal place to start work and fix the pins with electrical tape round the ropes as they can become a little loose with regular adjusting!

Depending on what it is you're trying to improve in the horse's way of going, I like chambons and bungees - both a lot cheaper than a pessoa. I appreciate your back lady specifically said a pessoa though.

I bought a cheaper version off eBay and it's great - also came in a sensible dark colour so the dirt doesn't show as much as on the original official white ones

Go for a cheaper one, I use the expensive 'proper' at work and a cheap copy regularly on my friends horse and I actually prefer the cheaper one a lot easier to adjust and sits better on the horse too.

I have the Pessoa. We use it in different size beasties. Easy to adjust.

I have the roller on a thick fluffy saddle cloth, which it stays on all the time. When finished using it I clip the front running ends to the top ring of the roller, and bring the back section up to meet it. With a bit of practice it all stays together and is easy to put on, adjust, take off :)

I have the John Whitaker training aid, highly recommend it, good price and comes with a really nice roller aswell, easy to set up and comes with full instructions explaining all the different settings and what they do. I love mine :D
