Meant to post this in here but posted it in Comp Riders instead - woops - have put it in here too. :)

I've been recommended that I use a pessoa on my lad instead of lunging him in the bungie. I've never used one but my instructor will give me a couple of lessons on what to do so no worries there.

I was looking in the tack shop today and there was a Pessoa or a John Whitaker lunging training aid. Then I looked online and there seem to be loads of pessoa-type things (e.g. derby house one). The pessoa and j-w seem quite pricey and there seem to be cheaper alternatives online, but I don't want to buy something cheap and useless - does anyone have any recommendations as to which ones are any good?

Also, my lad is a 13.3hh chunky fell - what are these types of things like with regards to sizing? He falls somewhere between a pony and a cob!

Thanks for your help

Hi there,

Cant help you with the sizing but, from experience the Pessoa is much better quality.

I have bought the cheaper versions off e-bay, then bought a geniuine pesssoa 2nd hand off e-bay when the rollers on my cheaper one broke :( Having compared the two, the Pessoa is much better quality all round, ropes run easily along the rollers, buckles and rollers are much better quality, sheepskin is actually sheepskin and not fake.

Just my personal opinion, but I would opt for either the Pessoa, or the JW version, my friend has one and it seems to be good quality. Look on e-bay or pre-loved and you may be able to get a 2nd hand one. Brilliant bits of kit by the way!

Happy shopping :)

I have the JW one. Its cheaper than the pessoa and comes with a roller so extra saving :) It really is super quality, I've had mine for a couple of years and it still looks grand. Would definitely recommend.
