I'm away at Uni during the week so my mare gets exercised by my Dad - shes too small for him to ride so she either gets lunged in the Pessoa, or walked in hand, or free schooled.

Nope, never. I don't like them at all. They are very unforgiving. I use a lungie bungie and tail bandage or the HO training aid.

A couple of years ago when my horse had a back problem I had to lunge him with a pessoa for 12 weeks before I was allowed to ride him again - so I literally did do it "all the time". Can you imagine how exciting that was! Worked at treat though!

If used properly they are really good i think. My friend uses hers a couple of times a week on a 5 year old and it really help his canter so come underneath him so that when she is riding he already has the muscles in place ready to be worked. I think different things work for different horses.

I love my 'training aid'. its a copy, found on derby house and was £69.99 -inc the roller etc...
I got it for my loan horse who basically came in from the field back in november after doing very little all year, he is now all set ready for the eventing season and could not have done it with out the training aid, twice weekly sessions.

When I have learnt to use it I will use it 3 or 4 times a week for my TB but atm I just school him instead. My dad used it on my part TB mare when she was coming back into work after 4 and a half years off with injury, she was on it for 20 mins ish every day - it worked wonders!

But then I heard that it's only meant to be on for 10 mins a week is that true?

I have the real thing as it has stainless steel clips and it rains most of the time where I am!

I have just started using my pessoa ( well think it may be pessoa concept but not necessarily the real deal) as it has been sitting with my tack for over 2 years. For one this is the first yard I have been at where I have a nice school and so far there has been no school hogging. Also I didn't know how to use it but I have now been shown how to so that is great. I used it on my lads today as it does adjust to fit both which is great and I have mastered the lines and adjusting the knots so it is pretty easy to use. I got mine secondhand from a shop that was selling new and secondhand gear for just £15 and it was in fab condition too so was well pleased.
