Hi,

My old boys legs have gone and it looks as if he will make his final trip to the vets on monday (he has extra strong pain relief for the weekend)

We have been discussing what to do with him afterwards, i would like him cremated and have his ashes returned, however we are unsure of the costs involved. Does anyone know? He is about 45kg so a large dog.

ive sadly had 2 done in the last 6 months, my heart goes out to you:(

my lab was about 27kg and was about £200 including them collecting him and delivering the ashes back to my vets.

Hi, My 8 year old 47kg dog has bone cancer :(. I have had to ask the same questions recently at my vets. He is ok atm but despite a leg amputation is likely to sucumb :(.
Vet quoted around £250 ish for collection from home (we will have him pts at home as he hated the vets). that was for individual cremation as well with the ashes returned. A further £200 ish for pts at home. :'( we are in the south. know how you are feeling. xxxxx

Sorry to hear your old boy is coming to the end of his days. When I had Saff pts last year, we took her to the vets and it was £50 to pts (it was a Sunday:() and £114 for individual cremation, her ashes were returned to the vets. She weighed around 30 kg.

Thanks all for your kind wishes and replies. When the cats or smaller animals have gone we have put them in the garden, Toby is way too big for that and i dont think the vets would let us take him home if they thought we were going to bury him, and i cant bare the thought of leaving him behind, but hubby is concerned with the cost, but now i can give him a rough idea.

We are lucky that we are able to have a few more days with him to say goodbye and spoil him rotten with food and love. Think i will be spending extra time at the yard next week crying into my horses mane :(

So sorry your dog is nearing the end.

My dog was 30kg and it cost £180 individual cremation with ashes returned in a scatter pot (vets service was slightly less). We intended to go with our vets simply because our dog died suddenly & didn't feel like we had time to research other options, but it turned out he'd of sat at the vets for a week before the next collection & then another week for the ashes to be returned so the vet let us know of a place nearby that one of the nurses had recommended instead.
We were very glad after it worked out that way, we took our dog to the crematorium ourselves (based at a beautiful farm), they prepared him in there farewell room were we could then say our good byes, it was as nice as these things can be. He was cremated later that day and we were given the option of collecting his ashes the following day or when convenient, they made us feel so comfortable there that i felt relaxed about collecting the ashes and not sure we would have at our vets as its so busy. This is the place we used price list forget me nott though expect it varies. If your dogs insured you maybe able to claim something towards cremation costs depending on policy.

Just a little update. I have spoken to my friend who bred Toby and she has said we can bury him in her woods and he will be laid to rest next to his mum. As a family we feel so much happier with this as he always enjoyed his holidays back 'home' and he knew his mum until she passed.
