Hi All,
My mum currently insures her jack russell terrier through her vets, but they are putting the prices up considerably, so she is looking to go elsewhere. Who would you recommend/advise to avoid? The terrier is spayed, 11 years old and in good health. I use petplan for my horses (which is who the current vets insurance is with), but choose not to insure our dogs, but to put the money in an account for them, so I don't know where to start with dogs insurance! Thank you in advance :)

For what it's worth (I don't use it myself, we have PetPlan) I've also heard good things about Tesco. Have a read of the terms and see what sort of price it spits out for an 11 year old. Unfortunately I think you might struggle to find a decently priced new policy for an 11 year old - but it will keep checking this thread in the hope that someone proves me wrong!

I think you might find the prices exorbitant and the cover limited.
My dog is 10 next year and I have been looking at changing insurers as I already pay a fortune and know it will go up, I'm not worried about pre existing conditions as she has none I would claim for.
But I have found all the quotes were exorbitant with limited cover, a common theme is a large excess plus I pay the first 20% of any claim!

I will only go through Pet Plan personally. I've not heard much bad about Tesco but I'm sure I read somewhere about the costs going up massively for senior dogs.

I use “lifetime pet cover” for my 11 1/2 year old. Pay £44 per month and then 20% of vets fees. A lot of insurance companies won’t take on policies for older dogs but lifetime pet cover will. They have excellent customer service and are very prompt at paying out on claims. I highly recommend them
