Pet hate - people riding ponies who take the P!

devonlass, I think it was nice of you to chat to her AND offer her assistance - it would be a bloody sad world if we all just left each other to it!

[/ QUOTE ]

After reading (up to this point) the above quote it exactly how I feel. People on here put down/slag off other liveries/YO's/other riders all the time, on here and do not get this response so why should this poster be jumped upon?

each to their own but to be so closed minded about NH etc is just bloody sad, narrow minded and typical of the unsuccessful

this has to be the post of the year so far...

I think it was the way in which the OP was written that has got peoples backs up.

As if she judged the woman based on the fact the horse had rhythm beads on and no shoes - which obviously meant she was an NH nut.

I too think I would have declined the offer of help had I been asked how old my horse was only to be told the horses the other rider was riding/leading were far younger.

At the end of the day, you offered to help, the other rider declined. I would imagine she knows her horse better than the OP so really don't see why it was necessary to start a post on it.

oh dear....i went out last night and missed all this. has made a great hangover cure tho! i have to say that whilst it was nice for OP to offer help i cannot stand it when people stick their oar into what i'm doing...if i want help i will ask people for it. my horse used to nap badly and it used to infuriate me when people came along with unsolicited advice- even if they were trying to be nice and helpful it makes the other person feel crap. end of rant!

Cor' blimey....people do seem to like to argue on here. I also think that she was right to offer assisatance and if the other hacker didn't want any then that is her decision. Maybe you could ask someone on her yard to ride out with her without her really knowing, just hint towards it so she doesn't feel intimidated maybe.

Also, how funny is it that somone said that people who don't embrace NH are unsuccessful!!!! I agree with JM07, post of the year!

Maybe she is just trying to teach her horse to go out without company, and feels that doing it slowly and without pressure will achieve this!
Maybe she is new to the horsey world and needs to find out her way on what and what not to do!
There are hundreds of reasons and all riders are not at the same level as one another, we should understand this!

Sorry if its been said before but there were a lot of posts and i only read a few of them!

Ride up behind it and give it a wallop on the ass! Then sit back and watch the fireworks!!

If someone did that to me they'd be seeing fireworks for sure, and my fist coming towards their face...

If that is the case then fair enough. But if someone offered to ride out with me, i would had least have the courtesy to thank them and say that i was teaching horse to walk out on its own! Not just wave the person on!

P.S. Are you an enthusuast of welsh horses or just the welsh in general?

There are plenty of people who keep their horses 'barefoot'.

Both my TB and my cob type, are barefoot atm, on the advice of my farrier, and there are yards where horses are not allowed to be shod behind, because of the risks of injuring other horses.

I don't think many people on here, if any, would frown upon unshod horses.

However, you have to admit that horse necklaces are fooking ridiculous!

haven't read all the replies but have to say I have offered help in the past when at Somerford Park farm ride and the lady was extremely grateful for a lead over some of the fences. However I would not have been offended is she had declined the offer of help, each to their own. Poor state we should get to if no one dared to offer their help to anyone else regardless of whether they are into NH or not

Well, I have briefly scanned most of this thread - it was getting a little tedious.
I do think it was kind of OP to offer help, but do not see any reason to criticise or comment on the other rider. It has nothing to do with P/NH/IH or whatever.

There are people who like to try to go faster and race, like faster horses etc (as OP) and there are people who just like to pootle along quietly, doing their own thing (as unknown rider.)
This really is just a difference in personality, and really nothing to write about. each to their own, and all that.

when my horse was napping rearing and bucking i DID kick him on, he DID throw me off in the middle of the road, it hurt and i have now lost my confidence all because someone told me to kick him on when hes pissing around , he got worse and worse and even worse and eventuly got me off...
so from now on i aint kicking him on lol

LOL when I was on holiday I spotted some and if they weren't so ridiculously expensive, I would have brought some for Ravenwood and MQ as would have insisted they wore then for the duration!!!!

Sorry back to OP (though got bored after 1st page)!!! Her pony, her choice I guess, though I'm not quite sure why this post has got such a big reaction.

Seems like the woman is seriously trying to avoid Devonlass; good lord I'm not surprised, perhaps she doesn't want to be the latest topic of conversation on HHO
wink.gif
, shame she doesn't yet know that she is, even when she did absolutely nothing to deserve it.

Leave her to it; you've offered her (what sounds like) many times - perhaps she just sees you as an interfering so and so now? And is trying to hide from you; maybe thats why she turned around, not because she was letting the pony gets his own way, but because she didn't want to be going in the same direction as a gossip?

LOL Tia, I do like you aye.

I've got a sense of humour but I didn't realise that was a joke. In which case I retract my answer and replace it with a more fitting

If it's any consolation I would have been grateful for a lead as I have been in that situation as I also have a pony that has been ruined by previous owners "giving up" with her. It has taken YEARS to get her hacking without arguments and she is now brilliant. On one such occasion I was enduring one of her napping sessions (spinning, backing up, slamming on brakes) when a woman on her cob from a yard down the road was coming past me, she said hello, offered a lead, I accepted, had lovely hack and we are still friends now, hacking together every Sunday.
This woman may have had her reasons for refusing help, but I don't see anything wrong with offering.
And FWIW, I am not into NH/IH and never will be....

There are some quite nasty people on these forums. I havn't been on in ages but when i first started and put up some posts i thought horse and hound would be a good place to get useful and considerate advice and opinion from other more experienced horsepeople as i'm 16, but you get some people who get completely the wrong idea and make assumptions as i found and others who are unnecesarily rude and intimidating.

I wear a tabard with 'Caution, Young Horse' and he's nearly 17 yrs old.

I would like one with 'Caution, Young Rider', I'm nearly 60yrs old.

Perhaps you could suggest the latest upgrade from the carrot stick and rhythm beads mentioned in the rearing post below - The catstick. Reports on effectiveness are very encouraging!

I'm 16 too and I'm finding that despite prejudices, there is a LOT to be learned, especially in arguments

Ditto.
She may have had her reasons for not wanting a lead - maybe her pony gets strong in company, maybe she's teaching it to hack out alone, maybe she was worried about what would happen when you had to split up and go your seperate ways again?

Maybe her and the pony were having an off day, she had to be elsewhere and just couldn't be bothered - we all do that sometimes! If its a one off, its unlikely to cause any problems long term, if not, well, she knows where you are if she does change her mind and decide she'd like some help and some company.

i guess most ppl who have left bitchy comments on here are just jealous of you devonlass1!!! and maybe they dont like ppl like you as they are all like the dozy cow who cant ride! Our yard is full of nuggets who won't even go in their horses stable and lead them around cos they r too scared to get on - Seriously what is the point in owning the dam things?
At least you tried to help and didnt just watch her struggling whislt trotting of!! Well done you - ignore all the petty muppets on here who cant ride themselves and obviously let there 'babies' walk all over them.

You're right: we're all so envious of your amazing horsemanship, not to mention your formidable command of the English language.

I think you'll find that most of us were objecting to the superior tone the OP was taking, rather than the fact she was offering help.

Anyway, must dash.
