Pet Hates and Yours Is..........

people who knock RS clients
mad.gif
and incidently RSs themselves - there are still some very good ones around

My biggest pet hates would be:
* people who say their horses have to stay in the stable 24x7 because they are too valuable to go out in the field.
* ill fitting tack
* people who treat their horses like machines.

Pet Hates

People that constantly advise against riding schools, and always advise against working livery generally, Well pickle is on working livery and is happy as can be!

People who are way too soft on there horses and let them get away with murder, it does the horse absulutely no good

People who over rug, horses are animals they are capable of keeping themselves warm

People that come to the RS for pony rides wearing birkenstocks, stiletto boots, sandals etc despite being told to wear sensible footwear with a heel! not that kind of heel!!!

Pushy parents who even when there child is crying and refusing to get on the pony, insists there child loves horse riding and books again next week despite the child in tears for the whole pony ride!

people who leave their ponies tied up in the courtyard for hours on end while they 'muck out' then have sh** blindness when their ponies leave piles of cr** behind in the courtyard afterwards, oh and folk who don't sweep up after they have had the farrier. Better stop now before i really get started!!

OK, I have LOADS....But I'll stick to a few!!

1/People that don't wear a decent hat with a chinstrap when riding

2/People that don't like turning their horse out and prefer to leave it stood imprisoned in a box all day

3/People that blame the horse for poor performance but actually need to look at their own riding

4/People that believe in shouting/screaming at horses

5/People that don't SHARE facilities properly, such as sharing a menage/working in area.

Think I will have to stop there,,,,,I could go on for a while!!!!

My main hate is people who don't treat horses as individuals and insist on imposing their own blanket philosophy on their horse whether it suits the animal or not.

- People who don't listen to their horse and overwork it even if it's bored/unfit ect.
- People who smack their poor ponios when they don't really need it.
- My horsie spitting his feed onto my head. Apparently he's just being affectionate, but I have my doubts!
tongue.gif

- That hard layer of soggy sawdust you get at the bottom of a deep bed. I rake O's bed into a pile in the morning so it doesn't happen, but it takes ages.
- Spoilt children on £20k ponies who try and show off by making the posh ponio gallop around in little circles.

Ok here i go....
People that feed their horses shed loads and hardly ride them then wonder why they're hard to handle...
People with poor warm up ring etiquette - seriously pees me off!!
People who say 'i hate draw reins/dutch gags/boots' and generalise when actually each horse is different and responds to different things
People who dont ride for weeks then get on and expect their horse to do an hour lesson/competition/trek
People who take on young horses to willingly when they dont know enough about training to do so
People who interfere....particularly when they come up to me and say 'you should be competing novice BE on him by now' eerrr hes 6years old....he has many many years left in him why rush him, i know my horse better than you

-browbands that are too small so the bridle is too tight behind the ears
-double close boots on the wrong legs
-numnahs not pulled up into the gullet
-numnahs that are too small so the saddle sits on the binding
-rugs that pull back onto the withers
-headcollars on in stables
-leadropes clipped on the wrong way round
-bailing twine that's tied on rings rather than tied in a loop then threaded through itself (makes me sound like a nutter but it annoys me because you have to cut it off if you want to remove it)

Oh dear I sound really fussy don't I...

too many to get into really, so just a few...
people in general
farriers
people who treat their horses like machines
bad losers- there is a girl locally who has the most amazing repertoire of excuses for when she doesn't win, including:

'My horse didn't knock the jump down, her tail brushed it and the wind blew and it fell by itself, it wasn't buile properly but I was too polite to say' when a crowd of people saw and heard jump being knocked

'I deliberately did the wrong jump off course in protest because the turn was too tight between jump X and jump Y and I couldn't do it. You can't eliminate me because I chose to do that course'

'I couldn't jump number X because it was raining'

oh and another pet hate (from the same child) is when you say hi to someone and they then proceed to tell you all about new horse that cost this many thousand, and how much they've won. I just said hi for god sake!

I agree with lots of these

Biggest peeves are:
people who dont do anything with their own horse but alway interfere with everyone elses
Horses being neglected/ treated like machines/just not treated like the wonderful animals that they are
Cruelty to horses
People who dont poo-pick
Bitchyness/snobbery in the horse world

bridles without nosebands
cobs in light fancy bridles
scruffy, long manes and tails look generally unkept
people who keep horses/ponies on a small paddock and never poo-pick it
people who borrow stuff and leave it in a bad state/don't put it back
people who think they are better than others
people who bang on about the way other people look after their horses and yet are too lazy to see to their own horse properly....i can think of more but i'd be here all night!!

I don't think I have any pet hates - does that make me weird?

[/ QUOTE ]

No you aren't. The only thing I can think of is people who quite obviously have too much time on their hands and sit whinging about what other people do.....instead of just getting on with doing what they should be doing.

I don't care if people wear hats when they ride; I don't care whether someone uses a gadget; I don't care whether they have bought their horses something which is deemed fashionable; I don't care if people don't ride their horses; I don't care whether people even come and see their horses except on rent-day.

I just don't care - it's none of my business and I only will comment on these things if I am specifically asked.

I have thought of another one (sorry Tia!)

When people say "he's only a baby" As their 7/8 year old kicks outs/bites and any other rude behavior as they haven't taught the horse any manners.

Oh if I have to deal with the horse and it has no manners then I care about that! I will sort it out if the owner doesn't; but I don't really care whether the owner does or not. I just won't have a bad mannered horse around me - what it does with the owner is up to it and her.

I hate seeing parents allowing kids to jump and jump their ponies for hours on end and bomb around on them until they are knackered. Ignorant un-knowledge parents that allow their kids to use their ponies like a machine and moan when its broke.

I dont like people who have too much money, go out and buy a super duper horse, then have no idea how to ride the horse and end up ruining it. Or people who never intend to do above riding club level, buying a super duper pricey horse who is destined for much greater things. I think its a waste!

Also agree with hating people (plenty of them) who boast like hell about their horse / daughter etc. and not ask one thing about my horse etc. or even show any interest whatsoever. Its just plain rude. Which goes hand in hand with those parents who think the sun shines out of their kids ass when their child is actually a dreadful spoilt brat who cant ride!

People who tie their horses up outside the lorrys at shows and leave them.

Too many people in the warm up ring (the ones that have 30 till there in)

oh and dirty tack

it just my pet hate LOL!! there's nothing "wrong" with it, i just think it makes the picture look "unfinished" the right noseband can really sweeten up a horse's head, i guess i'm just a traditionalist!!! or obsessed!!

OOOOOh, good one.

I hate
> leadropes and headcollars left in piles instead of hung up nice and tidy
> tools left all over the yard
> People who don't empty their wheelbarrows or fork their muck up

> People who only have a horse so they can come down to the yard and stand about and gossip/flirt
> People who think it is ok not to bother riding a horse that is stabled 24/7 for days on end
> People who constantly interfere in other people's riding rather than worrying about their own

and finally... my most hated thing...

People who LIE about their weight and come for lessons expecting our poor riding school ponies to heave 16+stone around the arena. We state clearly in our advert that we don't cater for riders over 13st, why lie to us? We aren't saying it because we don't like heavy people - we are thinking of the ponies' welfare AS SHOULD THEY. grrrrrrrr

My pet hates, not many tbh, but people who dont clean up after themselves, though thats in life generally, people who dont slow down on the road. and who dont wear hi viz stuff.
Kinda the same as Tia, couldn't careless what gadgets they use or if they dont ride, as long as they dont annoy me or expect me to do the same as them

Sorry Southwestwippet but I get annoyed at riding school's who's cut off limit is 13 stone. I'm 13 stone and am no way too heavy for your average horse. I will even ride daughters 13.1hh for short periods...I would have thought the average man is at least 13 stone. My OH is 12 1/2 stone and he's 6 ft and slim..
