Right who do you insure your dogs with ??

I dont insure mine as i have savings and would pay for things normally if i had to - thats what credit cards and bonus are for !!!

BUT

yesterday my puppy patch cut her ear (the tip) - we tried to stop the bleeding but it wouldnt clot i even put vet wrap around it for the pressure (was advised by the vet to do this) so at 10pm last night I decided enough was enough and took her to Park Vets in Foots Cray who stappled it and bandaged it - cost me £85 so not to bad !!

Well we got home and it was still bleeding my mum had also just had her carpets cleaned (woops) !! So I called the vet and rushed her back up there

They admitted her over night as they were worried cos the blood wasnt clotting !!! They called at 1.30am this morning saying they were going to have to anethatise her to stitch it so I said ok thats fine just do whatever they had to !!

So i called this morning and she is ok i can pick her up later today - and the grand total of the bill is

*******£546.41 *********

I nearly fell off my chair - when sara (my horse) impaled herself on the gate post it only cost me £600 and that was 4 visits from the vet and she is a horse !!!!!!!!

So decided as she is so accident prone to insure her - but that is still £9 a month - I pay that for one of my horses its unbeleivable !!!

xxxxxxx

Oh dear! Yes I always work on the basis that if I am taking my cat to the vets it is another £40 plus trip! I have never been and it be under this amount no matter what the problem!
I insure my cats through Tesco and it is £10 a month for both. But I have to say that for the work done that does seem a large bill!
My poor cat got an ulcerated eye and despite numerous treatments and visits and drugs we could not save it so she had the full operation to remove it and all the follow up care afterwards...and my bill was less than yours in total!
Hope your puppy gets better but I would insure as bills can mount up to incredable amounts and my problems with cats always seem to happen around christmas time too!

Yup, you pretty much get ripped off when it comes to cats and dogs. I just had my cats vaccinated-cost more than my horse. Stupid isnt it? I think they know they can get away with it with small animals as they are seen more as family members so they know you would do just about anything to keep them fit and healthy.

Tescos pet insurance is the cheapest quote i got for my whippet

I insure my dogs through Esure one is 5.41 a month and the other 7.99

they are cheapest for cats too as they give 10% discount on each pet when you insure another and 5% when you pay online

Direct line are next up price wise but made a mess of my policy so thats why I changed

Petplan are great but more money

So you have enough money saved up to pay vets bills in excess of £6,000? To date this year that is our vets bill for Bumble Dog - there is no way we were going to have her PTS as long as she has quality of life. Hubby said we would have paid it but having insurance we have only had to pay a percentage. Please please insure your animals

We use MoreThan and they have paid up all the way through treatment.

Bumble Dog is still receiving treatment - but is back to being bouncy, opinionated, grumpy and fantastic!!! 4 mice to date!!!

yes i do luckily have that money saved for a rainy day !!! plus in february will have more after bonus time xx

I know what you mean though i would pay it but it is better to have insurance just never really thought about it with dogs !! all my horses are insured and i do have a few !!x

my dog is insured with more than ,costs me 14.67 or something like that a month (which seems expensive compared to others on here ) have a claim going through at the mo as he got run over 3 weeks ago and mangled his leg pretty badly. the initial visit at half past midnight and the vet flushing it all out and bandaging etc came to £244! i think the excess is either 15% or £60 according to my mate who has had loads of claims.

I always use Petplan now, they are really very good - you can cater the policy for yourself, I chose life long - basically covered for life. My dog was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia this year & the cost so far has been over £3k, they have paid out no probs & all his supplements are covered too which he will no doubt be on for life - think I pay about £26 per month.
