this is very vague, sorry. I am looking at insurance quotes-I had the smalls on a multi-pet Tescos policy and now just have the cat left and its due for renewal soon anyway. new pup coming so seeing if I can get a deal elsewhere.

A few years ago I was looking to take my old dog off his KC insurance and someone recommended a company that sounded really good if you were looking to insure a puppy. Can't remember who the heck they were though. From what I remember they were run by vets? But not Vetsure.

I have quotes from the usual suspects.

I use PetPlan. Fantastic service. Come highly recommended by vets. Competitive prices.
I've always been advised it's better to choose an organisation which deals solely with pets, rather than an insurer who does a wide range of other policies (ie Tesco).
That's just because they only deal with claims of this type and therefore tend to be a bit more on the ball when it comes to understanding, putting through claims quickly etc.
I think PetPlan run their own veterinary site.
We choose them as their Covered for Life scheme was the most competitive. No restrictions when it comes to pre existing conditions or conditions which develop during their lifetime. Have been burnt by restrictions in the past for a dog with osteoarthritis.

Would rather not use Petplan, sorry. Tescos were good for the older dogs I had with pre-existing conditions and for limited cover. The pup I want to have good cover while he's under 8 at least and then we'll review premiums.

its Vets Medi Cover-anyone used them?

I've got Tiva with them as a friend has her lab with them and has had very good service from them. The lab has numerous allergies and had a lump on her shoulder removed. Vets medi cover pay her vet direct and didn't bat an eye lid at referral to an allergy specialist. I have not had to claim for Tiva. They would not take Lily due to her age, she is with lifetime pet cover and having just claimed for Lily's oral lump the service was great. I recieved payment just 5 days after posting the claim.
Good luck with your pup and don't forget to post photos

I had a look at vetsmedicover, however I read stories about the premiums going up once people have claimed, but Satinblaze's friend sounds as if she had a good experience, has she had a renewal quote since then?

We are with Direct Line and I have been very pleased with them with regard to paying out claims, however once she had claimed the premium seemed to go up considerably. We did consider cancelling the cover due to cost but we have increased the excess to £160 and the premium dropped. One good thing with Direct Line is as the dog is older you still only pay an excess, not an excess and the first percentage of any claim as you have to do with Petplan. They are fair with the excess it is only once per condition ever, and when she had two bad ears I thought they may charge an excess for the second but they didn't.

I have a pot of £8,000 per condition, it lasts as long as it lasts there is no time limit. Pet plan does do better cover but when I original took out the insurance was 3 times the price!!

"""Ditto .... This.

My vet said they are the best insurance company to have plus they settle claims promptly.
