I'm looking for an really amazing artist do my dads dogs portrait for me to give him as a birthday present. Recommendations would be greatly appreciated. (I don't mind paying a decent amount of money for the right person.)

I personally know of two people - Mary Herbert http://www.portra.co.uk/ who has done two portraits for me, and Jenny Lupton http://www.jennylupton.com/

Wow!! no offense to any of the other artists, they are all very very good but Mary herberts dog portraits are absolutely amazing! I am now going to save up and get the pack here done by her...I cant believe quite how life like they are! Thanks for posting!

Papafrita on here did a wonderful picture of my daughters horse and pony, she has some great dog portraits on her website.
Mypegasus, that is a lovely picture of your heeler, we used to have one, sadly lost her at 15 years old.

I'm almost glad I'm not planning to have any painting at the moment because it means I don't need to choose, I mean they are all so good but in different ways.

These, by Jenny Lupton, looks better than photos to me http://www.jennylupton.com/dogs/RH15.htm http://www.jennylupton.com/dogs/RH10.htm

I think Mary Herbert uses a different technique, she also gets a very realistic result http://www.portra.co.uk/Portraits/Dogs/dog13/dog13.html

How do you compared those to Laura Barbers oil painting of the little Edie puppy (number 24) http://www.laurabarber-riley.com/page3.htm ?

Or to those done by PapaFrita (her homepage, I couldn't get a link to one single painting on its own) http://pilar-larcade.110mb.com/frame.html ?

They're all so good... I think I would end up wanting one from each, think I need to give up eating and start saving up some money...
