PETA is suing Totilas' owners and rider

I BELIEve , correct me if I am wrong, that in Sweden it is against the law to castrate animals because it interfers with normal behaviour patterns,You can sterilize them.I think the main thing is that society is gradually becoming more humane and is trying to legislate for animal welfare.Maybe people don't always get it quite right but the general idea is a good one.

I think in sweden they have strict laws about castration of piglets and things like that but I do think they geld horses ,I seem to remember that in Norway castration of dogs is not as roultine as here but it is done.
I'll have to look that up sometime.
The castration issue was one the main issues I had with the five freedoms.

I'm sorry but if you don't have the facilities to keep horses in a humane way, then don't keep horses, its not rocket science. But most of the examples you choose are not really typical of the problem. Police horses, for instance, spend a long time out on patrol and are certainly not in their stables for 23 hours a day, they also (i believe) have long periods on holiday every year where thay are out 24/7 with companions. I don't know about the Queens horses, Household cavalry etc, but if they are not getting similar breaks and holidays then shame on them!
When are we ever going to start accepting that these horses have a hard and un-natural life! I despair at the arrogance of us humans who feel that we can do as we please to animals, keep them badly, lock them up etc and it is deemed acceptable. If the will was there, things would change, but sadly for the horses, the needs and wants of the humans must come first. We KNOW we can keep horses more humanely, if people refuse to do it of their own volition, then MAKE them.

I know I keep my four horses humanely they could not have better lives i am extremly fortunate to have my own land my own yard at the me and seven days a week to help care for them good enough for me I don't want need or allow
any busybodies to get involved .
The law already requires you give an animal the care it needs to maintain a comfortable healthy life I am not sure the new act ,with came into law after I left the welfare field is beding in and what the case law has showing now its in use.
It will hopefully have reduced the times you are powerless to act because you knew the animal had not reached the threshold that would constitute unnessary suffering in law .
Focusing on turn out would ignore the fact that terrible things happen in fields in fact some of the worse things I saw happened to field kept horses.

The people are extremists. They don't actually care about animals in the true sense. They don't see them as companions or pets. And let's see, my horses are in at night because the ground is crap and I don't want them wallowing around in it 24/7. PETA could sue me too. Does that not strike a chord with anyone? These people are asshats. And if you send in donations to PETA in the name of Totilas then don't tell them you have animals. Do you honestly believe this is about Rollkur? Follow the money people. Why not Kittel then? Why not Anky?

Terri

Absolutely agree!
