Petition to get rid of the intrusive ads on the forum.

I kept getting that stupid car advert last night, it was driving me mad!! But I think I've now blocked pop-ups from my computer, though I'll have to see if it actually works!!

The offending advert opens if you accidently cross over it to go to the side of your screen, I must have opened it so many times and not once intentionally.

This ^^ they serve no purpose apart from making me annoyed with the advertiser and therefore even less likely to buy their products. I am getting ads that are irrelevant to a horse forum - do they think we all want to buy posh espresso makers for our tack rooms??
 
THE CAR ONE LAST NIGHT!!!!!! I was so sick of the revving noise and it popping out that in the end I logged off.
No problem with adverts - but no noises or popping into the rest of my screen please! :o

Right.... if what everyone tells me is true that the ads pay for the forum... if we all go on to add block then people will stop advertising ....END of THE FORUM..... if the adverts keep everyone happy... ie we click on what we want to look at, rather than them taking over the forum... we will all have a forum that suits the advertisers and the users

Could it be Adblock for Chrome?

Adblock for Firefox, perhaps?

Or for IE, if you're into that kind of thing ;)

Yes I agree and glad this post popped up! I kept clicking the close X but that blasted car kept popping up. Drives you mad( no puns intended)! Once you say NO it should mean Close /No. I thought it was just me gone mental. (Yes I probably am but...)

The people who don't want to see the ads aren't people who were going to click through anyway, so not seeing them won't impact on the advertiser's hits one way or another.

Nice adverts would be nicer ;) though I'll stick to none!

But Floxie... if the ads are not annoying and are something i am interested in - then i do click on them and do buy stuff.... the same as others do. So advertisers that give you a choice are being peanlised by those that shove down there irritaing adverts onto you.

All we are asking for is that the x box and coffee adverts go forth and do something else and leave us to decide if we would like to look at the other adverts
 
Whoever sold this advertising space wants sacking. Reluctantly I've now blocked all adverts which I really didn't want to do. The decent advertisers that aren't intrusive and help fund sites are the ones who suffer.


I've bought things I've seen advertised normally but the screaming car engine, the coffee ad and any other idiot advertiser has totally alienated me and I'll never buy their product. (Similarly avoid $$$$bucks not for advertising but for crimes against coffee and tax evasion.)

If HHO get rid of pop up ads and then I'll remove the blocker and look at the decent ones.

Very pleased to see this post as I am afraid that annoying car last night made me log off, I couldn't stand it!!! You didn't even have to click on it, just take your cursor near it and there it was. It wasn't even remotely horse orientated, not even sure what it was advertising.

I quite understand why we need adverts to pay for the forum and usually don't mind them at all. But surely they should be aimed at the demographic who are using the forum and we should have the option to click on them to see more if we choose, not have it continually blocking the screen.

I have firefox and have pop-ups blocked- never had the car or the coffee maker or anything blocking the screen (which seem to be the main ones people are having issues with?)

I just have the discrete adverts down the right handside (H&H classifieds and sometimes other brands) and along the top but they are very unobtrusive and don't bother me at all.

No, I don't even get the side ones; I must be doing something right lol! :)

BTW, you know you thought Milly was muddy that day; you should see her now, I'm sure she's half hippo! :D
 
The ones that pop up and block the screen drive me mad, I actually refuse to buy anymore of there clothes as they are p***ing me off so much with their advert!!!!!
 
Drove me mad, trying to get rid of the s*dding thing,till my hubby said the more you clicked on it to close the more hits the advertisers got, which is good for them. So I switched off and went to bed:):):)

This happend to me 5 times in one night. i got so annoyed as when i tried to click the X it wouldnt go off with loud car racing noises going on :eek::mad: in the end i got so sick i just came off all together :(
