Yes, had a claim too & no problems. Also the same for quite a few others I know, even with trickier cases. My vets also recommend them as they pay out easily.
used to they squirmed out of a large payment on a technicality despite agreeing to pay. my vets were disgusted with their attitude and I wont use them again because of it. generally though they are a lot more reliable than some other insurers!
In the past 18 months, my vets bill have been somewhere in the region of about £13000. I say "in the region of" as I don't like to add it all up....it could be nearer £18000 if I'm honest.
Petplan have paid up every time - a few questions now and again, and the last claim took them over two months to sort out, but when I queried how they came to the total (as it seemed a bit out), they admitted they had made an error and sent me a cheque for just over £300 after recalculating it.
Even after all the claims, my premium only went up a few pence each month at renewal. I find them very helpful on the phone when I ring them and personally I wouldn't insure with anyone else.
Used them for 10 years, cannot fault them! Mine is now a veteran and I kept her insured with them. When she was 10 they paid out loss of use, I think they paid out approximately 4500k in fees, they never quibbled once with my vet or paying out.
I didnt insure my new horse with them as the premium was just too much! I went with Stoneways, they are underwritten by the same company (although different terms of course)
I am hoping I wont regret it, simply couldnt justify Petplans price.
My friend had a nightmare with Petplan recently, I have heard mixed reviews...I cannot fault them.
I have used them for 25 ish years. The administration is appalling, read, reread, and double check because even if they have themselves giving the wrong information recorded, they will not back down.
However as far as communicating regarding claims and paying out goes, I cannot fault them in any way. I have had some significant claims with them over the years and they have been great.
I had a very unlucky horse whom I had to make 5 claims for in a year they paid out without any problems. The only claim they asked for more information on was for Peritonitis, they wanted to know his worming history, absolutely fair enough as far as I'm concerned.
I also have experience of Stoneways and they were fantastic, the only reason I didn't insure my new boy with them was because they were double the price of Petplan but I wonder if this is because I had a big claim with them which also resulted in them having to pay out for my ponies death?
It would be worth you getting a quote for them, I have my new pony insured with Petplan but still use Stoneways for my trailer.
i insure my horses with them, work at vets and deal with the claims form side of things also, can't really fault them tbh, they have paid out for injuries that have amounted to thousands with no questions asked, they never try to wiggle out unlike many other companies out there
I recently had a claim with them when my old (32) mare cut herself. The vet bill was ridiculously high and they paid out within three weeks - I was very impressed.
