Been having a slight melt down here! I recently came back from a 3 week holiday only to discover when i got back that my petplan DD had bounced!! I normally leave money in this account for all DD but unfortunately not this time, unaware to me as i was abroad. Got back and gave them a call, any how i couldn't find my card to pay the outstanding and was told i had a few days and not to panic... that was on the thursday. Monday came (i forgot all about it!!) called to pay it and was told policy was cancelled 2 days previous. Under no circumstances where they to carry it out and it was tough luck!! thing is i have already claimed 3,300 in vets fees and still have outstanding claims to pass on to them. They said they will cover anything up to the day it ended but nothing afterwards. Well she's due to be rescanned and have more injections in october at almost £500 a time, i though all would be well as i was insured.
I tried to explain to petplan but they where having none of it. Think its pretty unfair really, especially since i have always paid and have had the policy for 2 years

What would you do??

I thought they paid out in the same claim for 12 months regardless of whether the policy has ended or not?

I'd get back to petplan, ask them to listen to the recorded copy of their phone conversation with you and to provide you with a copy of this to determine exactly what time scales they allowed you to pay in.

Whilst doing that I'd also go and read the cancellation section in your policy to check what their written terms are, however if they have advised differently on the phone you still have a chance.

If they said 2 days on the phone and the policy wording backs that up it would be hard to argue but if they said 'a few days' I would raise it as an official complaint, ask them to reconsider and advise that you would like details on how to refer your grievance to the Financial Ombudsmen Service :)

Fides they won't continue to pay out unless the policy is current and paid up. Tricky one OP - you can see Petplans point of view, you allowed the policy to lapse. I am sure a car policy would be the same and any accident in those interim days would not be covered. It is unfortunate that you had an ongoing claim, but sadly I think you need to suck this one up.

I'm afraid it just sounds like insurance companies. In their place I can completely understand. The policy lapsed. You can start another one but there will be exclusions. Saving them quite a bit as the horse needs ongoing treatment! (Mind you they would probably have slapped an exclusion on at renewal anyway....). You are probably going to have to chalk this one up to experience I'm afraid.

You've not got a hope - unless you can get good will ... If you don't pay for a product you can hardly have the benefit from it... So phone them back and be charming cos you are asking an insurance company for a favour... Which is, I must admit, a long shot...
