what for? the petplan area festivals? what classes are you doing? im doing the moreton and Wellington Petplans, the Novice Open and Elementary Restricted in each.
yeah the area festival novice open, never done one before have you? I know you cant use a whip and a commander, can use a whip in warm up cant you. Im excited and nervous had a hard lesson yesterday and ache so lunging tonight a practise again tomorrow. Am i right in saying its a mounted prize giving for everyone should i use my white bandages for that bit then
You can wear them if you like. If you come 1st or 2nd then you go to the winters in April. You can use a whip to warm up but not during the test, and you are right, no commanders.
I won the prelim last year and cam 2nd at the nationals in april.

i went to the finals at solihull last year in the novice restricted (and came 4th!). sad not to be doing them this year, but horse is lame.
You can have a whip in the warmup, just remember to drop it when you go in. no callers. It's not a mounted prize giving for everyone, only the top 8, sometimes the top 10, depending on venue. if you do get in, then white bandages are the norm, but not compulsory. the novice open is usually a very high standard so good luck!
,
i'm going to Moreton aswell with my youngster, only doing prelim R. Never been down south got a really long journey to show 3hr plus but nearest petplan thing to me
how come you are doing the open? i take it youve got points at elementary then? if so how come you're not doing the elementary??? or is it just you thats open and not your horse? Either way good luck - im doing the ON too but not til the end of august.
well, most of the area festivals are won on scores in the high 60's, low 70's. all the pro's should be at the regionals as no-one is allowed to do the festivals if they do the regionals, but you still get good people who know their horses wont win at the regionals so even if they qualify they choose to do the festivals as they have a better chance of doing well. usually there are 2 judges too which makes it a bit more exciting!
thanks, yes i got points at elementary a while ago on my old horse, my current boy not quite ready for elementary yet. Luckily for me ardingly is not too spooky unlike oldencraig and i made a point of riding there a couple of weeks ago. Good luck with your competition as well. Looks like you have a v nice horse

you're joking <img src="http://horseandhound.co.uk/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://horseandhound.co.uk/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> two judges at festival ?????????????

yup! makes it all the more fun! usually 1 at C and 1 at either H or M, or B or E. i quite like having 2 - balances out when 1 of them usually takes offence at my welshie! at the finals the head judge at C had me as the winner though, so was very annoying to drop to 4th because of stingy judge at E!
OMG, i now feel really out of my league!!!, but being very positive it did only take me two test to quailify and i won one of them.
BUT boy i'm not really worried. How to do smile at both judges at the same time
........................... oo sh***t and the entry form just gone in post box
dont worry about it - just go and have fun. there will be people there who have really struggled to get their 2 sheets to qualify and others who have been winning tests in the 70's and have chosen to go the festivals just to get to the finals. as long as you go with the aim of enjoying it that's all that matters. who cares what everyone else does. it's only another test, albeit with another judge (just ignore that one, you only salute to the judge at C), and maybe some flowerpots and almost certainly some lovely big, bright blue Petplan banners. it's an occasion - make the most of it!
it was nice having 2 judges there, as they see different views of your horse so see different things. in fact the 2 horses that won the NR last year at ardingly had the biggest difference between the 2 judges, one judge really liked the horse and another marked about 6-8% lower! my horse got the same mark from both judges!
same happened to me at the nationals - the woman who beat me (by 0.5%
) had a TWELVE mark difference between the two judges, and honestly her test wasnt great, everyone complained and i appealed but nothing could be done. She was the only one with such a massive difference, and cost me my first place

there was 8% between my judges at the nationals!!! not sure how many marks that is, but that's a hell of a difference. i got a 4 for a medium canter from one and a 7 from the other - i know they have a slightly different view, but that's ridiculous! i was 5 marks off the winner - if old stingy judge had been a little more reasonable i would have won. in my class, there was a real mix - some people had huge mark differences, others had marks almost the same. and they were both List One judges so should know their stuff.
i know, it does make you wonder tho who they can get such differing opinions/views on movements. When i spoke to the judge at the end she told me that 'they make mistakes and cant be expected to get everything right all the time'........at championship level they shouldnt be making mistakes, and she shouldnt have been making excuses for whatever had gone on in the judging! it just infuriates me!!!!!
